Zurp's 2007 Pick 'Em Game

If anybody has a conference win after the first 3 weeks in September, it'll be a good trick. :wink2:

Ok, pal, if you're going to chicken-peck everything I say to make yourself look so smart (as if that's hard, standing next to me), just remember that you started this pickle-eating contest.

LSU has a conference win. But, as we're talking about "the first 3 weeks in September," maybe we should wait until those 3 weeks are up, in case they lose that win.

Good point. I should have bought LSU. :tongue2:

I'll buy Penn State -5, Purdue -5, Iowa -2, and Michigan State -1. I'll keep the other 2 points.

Just so we're clear, those two points will be lost. I didn't want anyone to say he's playing, and then keep all 15 points, instead of pick teams. Then, he can buy whatever teams he wants after week 3. I thought that was a little unfair.

Once the Big Ten season begins, though, you will be allowed to keep points in your pocket.

Yes and no. First, you get a maximum of four teams. So if you want to simply add Northwestern, then, you can't. You'd have to sell another team, first.

Also, remember that until Big Ten play starts, you lose a point each week, if you want to buy or sell teams. So, if someone has Michigan for 7 points, he can sell them for 7 points, but then he loses 1, and then only has 6 points to buy another team. But you only lose 1 point for this week. (You only get 14 points for this week if you want to make any transactions this week.) IF you want to keep the teams you already have, you get to keep your 15 points. If you haven't yet picked teams, you start with only 14 points.

If you want to change up teams next week, you'll drop down to 13 points.

Once Big Ten play has started, your teams are frozen, until your teams have 3 Big Ten games. At that point, you may sell them (for the number of wins they have) and buy other teams (with three games).

Seems like everyone understands what's going on. Let me know if there's more cornfusion.

A serious question. After week three of Big Ten conference play, some teams will have played three B-10 games and others only two. If you own a team that's only played two games at that point, you can still trade a team that's played three for another team that's played three (as long as the trade values follow the rules), right?

In other words, I'm assuming only the teams involved in the trade would need to have played 3 conference games, not every team you own.

Correct. The teams that still have only two Big Ten games played will remain frozen - no buying or selling them. But the teams that have played that third Big Ten game will be free to buy or sell.

Buy:
Michigan - 7
Penn State - 5
Iowa - 2
Illinois - 1

Since you can't buy/sell until after 3 Big Ten games I guess I'll just "stand pat". Remember, no cheating here, I'll be watching you.

Zurp this is a pretty fun game but I've got to tell you its one of the most confusing I've gotten involved with. I am sure you have a much easier time explaining things in person about this, no?

Anyways since I was thoroughly confused the first week, I just lose the points for the first week and only one point this week, is that correct?

Also how do the standings work?

I don't think I've ever tried to explain this in person. I've never actually played it. I tried to start something similar last year, with a couple of friends, with the NFL. It was a little differenter though. And, yeah, it's confusing.

For those of you who are confused, think of it kinda like the stock market, except the prices of the stocks never go down. (But some stocks won't go up, in a particular week.) And you can't buy more than one of any one stock, and you're only allowed to have four stocks, maximum.

The initial prices of the teams is the number of wins they had last year (Big Ten games, only). This is for initial team-picking, only. And prices this year, when Big Ten play begins, will be the number of wins each team has at any particular point. You do not need to sell or re-buy teams each week, but you may want to.

Also, buying and selling for each team will be frozen begining with the team's first Big Ten game, and will begin when that team has 3 Big Ten games complete. (As BB73 pointed out, some teams will not have 3 games, even after Week 3. In that case, you may buy/sell the teams with 3 games, but not the games with 2, still.)

Remember, a maximum of 4 teams is always a rule.

Since there has been confusion, and I may not have started the game early enough, I'm going to let everyone go back to 15 points until the start of the Big Ten season. (The purpose for the losing one point each week was to convince people to choose teams before the season actually began, instead of waiting to see which teams might be better or worse than originally expected.) If you haven't picked teams yet, feel free to pick teams, using last year's wins as the point values, adding up to a maximum of 15 points. If you've already picked teams, you may re-pick them (if you want to), again with a maximum of 15 points.

Finally, remember that any points you do not use (you do not need to use all 15 points) get lost at this point. However, during the season, any points you do not lose can be carried-over. (The purpose for not being allowed to carry-over points at this point is I didn't want someone to not use any points, and then get to pick the four best teams in week 3.)

Let me know if there's any more confusion.
