'13 KY ATH Ryan Timmons (Kentucky Signee)

Franklin Co.?s Timmons schedules visits to Illinois and Ohio State
Posted on November 30, 2012 by Steve Jones

Franklin County High School wide receiver/running back/return specialist Ryan Timmons has his third and fourth official visits scheduled: to Illinois this weekend and to Ohio State on Jan. 11.

He?s already been to Arkansas and Purdue.

Timmons said coaches from Ohio State and Illinois have both been by his school this week. He said as of Thursday night, he?d not heard from new Kentucky coach Mark Stoops, although it would be no surprise if he?s made a top in-state priority for the Wildcats? new staff. Stoops began contacting at least four of UK?s current commitments on Thursday night.

Timmons? trip to Ohio State will be his fourth time at the school. He also was at the Buckeyes? spring game, a summer camp (where he was a top performer), their home game against Nebraska and their home game last weekend against Michigan. He is still waiting on a scholarship offer from Ohio State, whose 2013 scholarship count is limited by probation.

I hope with strong staying with Louisville and quick most likely staying home now, Timmons gets an offer and we see him come to cbus. He and jalin Marshall would be great athletic hybrid players. If we were to get Gibson as well, the amount of speed coming in would be insane. Timmons would look great in this offense

New Kentucky assistant coach makes Franklin's Timmons feel welcome

Franklin County's Ryan Timmons (5) escaped a tackle against Anderson County on Oct. 12. Timmons led the Flyers to a 12-1 mark, scoring 45 TDs and gaining nearly 2,500 total yards.
Lexington Herald-Leader

The first official hire of the Mark Stoops era took place Thursday morning with the addition of D.J. Eliot as defensive coordinator.

Eliot's first order of business: Recruiting Ryan Timmons.

The new University of Kentucky assistant showed up at Franklin County High School at 10:30 a.m., just a couple of hours after his hiring became official.

Timmons led the Flyers to a 12-1 record this season, scoring 45 touchdowns and amassing nearly 2,500 yards of total offense in the process. He's considered one of the best seniors in the state.

Franklin County Coach Chris Tracy said he and Timmons met for about 20 minutes with Eliot, who laid out Stoops' plan for the Kentucky program.

"Everywhere Coach Stoops has been, he's been successful," Tracy said. "Whatever he was responsible for was successful. And he plans on doing the same thing with the UK program. And the first thing that they have to do is keep the great in-state kids, like Ryan, in state."

Of the 14 high school players committed to Kentucky, only one ? Clay County lineman Jacob Hyde ? is from the state.

Tracy was impressed with Eliot's pitch, and he's been impressed with what he's heard about Stoops.

Timmons, who would like to play running back, receiver and return kicks in college, is waiting to see who UK's new offensive coordinator will be.

Tracy said he's heard the same names "everybody else has thrown around" for that position.

"I think it would be an outstanding choice to get a Kentucky guy to come and do it," he added.

That would be Neal Brown, the Danville native, former Kentucky player and current offensive coordinator at Texas Tech.

Tracy said the offense that Brown runs with Texas Tech is "identical" to the one he has at Franklin County.

"I think that would be a very smart move, but I also know (Brown) is up for some head coaching jobs," he said. "So that would be a very tough decision on his part."

Brown, just 32 years old, has been mentioned in connection with head coaching vacancies at Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss and Arkansas State.

Timmons has narrowed his list to UK, Ohio State, Illinois, Arkansas and Purdue.

Arkansas and Purdue have hired new head coaches in recent days, and Tracy said he has yet to hear from either one of them.

Ohio State is the only school that hasn't offered a scholarship, but Timmons is planning an official visit to Columbus on Jan. 10.

The Buckeyes' recent NCAA troubles mean there is no guarantee that Timmons will receive an offer.

"It's just a numbers game because of their probation," Tracy said.

Illinois has made a good run at Timmons.

His playing style is often compared to that of Minnesota Vikings receiver Percy Harvin, and two Illini coaches were instrumental in helping Harvin hone his game.

Co-offensive coordinator Billy Gonzales was Harvin's wide receivers coach at Florida. The other co-offensive coordinator, Chris Beatty, was his coach at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach.

"They've been on him from the get-go," Tracy said. "And they've really got it going on ? they've got some good coaches up there. He really enjoyed that trip and that's a place he could go in and contribute right away."

Timmons is saving his final official visit for Kentucky, though no specific date has been set.

"I know that they want Ryan. And Ryan feels wanted," Tracy said "... It's nice when you get a changeover and he's the first one you come see."

wymt - UK's Eliot visits Franklin County's Ryan Timmons

12/6

LEXINGTON, Ky - (WYMT) UK's new defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, D.J. Eliot, is already making his way around the Commonwealth. Eliot visiting Franklin County's Mister Football candidate Ryan Timmons. Franklin County football coach, Chris Tracy, said the meeting went well and that Eliot was a "good guy". The 3-star running back and receiver is a highly sought after prospect. In his senior season with the Flyers, Timmons accounted for 1,306 yards rushing with 26 touchdowns and 1,004 receiving yards crossing the goal line 16 more times.

Timmons is scheduled for an official visit to Ohio State on January 11th and an official trip to UK in the future. As of now, Timmons has received offers from Arkansas, Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois, and WKU. The Cats did offer Timmons when Joker Phillips was Kentucky's coach. In fact, Timmons' recruitment has been impacted by coaching changes. Purdue, Louisiana Tech, UK, and Arkansas all have new coaches and all were recruiting Franklin County's highest profile football player maybe ever.

I don't think the OSU offer part is accurate (yet).

Ohio State could be leader for Timmons
December, 12, 2012
By Dave Hooker | ESPN.com

Ryan Timmons' finalists are coming out in droves before the pending dead period later this month.

The ESPN 300 athlete from Frankfort (Ky.) Franklin County said he has talked to coaches from Arkansas, Kentucky and Ohio State. Buckeye coaches were in town to visit him on Tuesday. Coaches from Kentucky and Illinois were scheduled to see him on Thursday.

The Illini are looking to break into Timmons' list of finalists. As difficult as that could be, at least he still has an official visit he can take if necessary.

Timmons has had a mighty challenge to evaluate his list of finalists. Three of his finalists -- Arkansas, Kentucky and Purdue -- have had coaching changes. That would seem to signal good things for Ohio State. Timmons has shown strong interest in the Buckeyes. He is scheduled to take an official visit there on Jan. 11.

Timmons has Ohio State among favorites
December, 24, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

If Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is listening, it won?t take much to become one of the favorites for an ESPN 300 athlete who already has an official visit lined up for Jan. 11.

At least that?s what Ryan Timmons (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County) said Monday when asked for his favorites.

?Once Ohio State offers, it?ll probably be Kentucky and Ohio State,? he said.

For now, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Timmons has a front four of Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio State.
