COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team opened its home slate with an 8-5 win over Siena on a windy Friday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 9-6 on the season while the Saints fall to 0-15.
“I liked how we produced early but I didn’t like how we finished the game,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We have to be able to finish and soundly beat a team and that’s all about attitude. The guys who come in the game late have to be ready to play and the guys who play regularly and go to the bench have to be willing to do that and support their teammates.”
After a scoreless top of the first by Ohio State starter Ryan Riga, the Buckeyes took the lead in the bottom of the frame off Siena left-hander Matt Gage. With one down, Jacob Bosiokovic tripled to right-center and came around to score on a passed ball for the 1-0 Ohio State advantage. After a Pat Porter groundout, Josh Dezse doubled to right, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out infield single by Ronnie Dawson to push the lead to 2-0......

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team took both games of a doubleheader against Siena by scores of 7-3 and 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the wins, the Buckeyes improve to 11-6 while the Saints fall to 0-17.
“I would have liked for us to be sharper this weekend,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We were sharper last week on the road than we were here. I think the intensity of the games out there had our attention and maybe we were too comfortable in this series. It won’t be that way next weekend when we start conference play against Michigan State so we’ll find out who we are right away.”

Game 1
Siena took the early lead against Ohio State starter Greg Greve. Greve retired the first two batters of the top of the first but walked Justin Esquerra and gave up an RBI double to left-center by Andres Ortiz for the 1-0 Saints lead.
Ohio State answered right back against Siena starter Ed Lewicki in the bottom of the frame. A walk by Troy Kuhn and a double to left-center by Jacob Bosiokovic put Buckeyes on second and third with one down for Ronnie Dawson. The freshman went down swinging but Josh Dezse picked him up with a two-out, two-run single up the middle as the Buckeyes took a 2-1 lead after an inning of play.....

Game 2
Ohio State took the lead in the bottom of the second off Siena starter Bryan Goossens. Zach Ratcliff doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single to right by Ryan Leffel. A fielder’s choice by Gretz, a walk by Nennig and a single by Wetzel then loaded the bases with one down before Gretz scored on a wild pitch and Kuhn followed with a two-run double to right-center to score Nennig and Wetzel for the 4-0 lead.
Three-straight singles loaded the bases with nobody out for Siena in the top of the fourth against Ohio State starter Zach Farmer. The left-hander then struck out Nick Duarte but Dave Hoffman plated Ortiz with an RBI groundout to cut the Buckeye lead to 4-1.........

Notes
- Bosiokovic tallied his sixth multi-hit game of the season in the opener while Dezse notched his fourth.
- Tully tied his career best with 4.0 innings pitched and set a career high with three strikeouts in the opener.
- Dawson notched his team-high seventh multi-hit game in the nightcap.

Love this quote from Coach Beals. If they wanna be a top 25 program the intensity/sharpness needs to improve. Nice to see Dezse back stroking the ball..

Like the makeup of the freshman pitchers. Dawson is going to be a stud but has to learn to hit the off speed stuff. This isn't high school anymore. Defense was still a issue, numerous misplayed balls in the OF. IF defense was pretty good. Nening was slick at SS. Pat Porter is really in a funk at the plate, hope this changes real soon. Great to see Dezse back on the field, need more from Bosio. Too many strikeouts. Hopefully the Bucks take care of business this week before B10 play starts.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A sacrifice fly by Troy Montgomery in the bottom of the 11th inning scored pinch-runner Jake Brobst to give Ohio State a 6-5 win over Akron Tuesday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes improve to 12-6 while the Zips fall to 7-9.
“It was good to bounce back after we got behind in the game,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We found a way to score in the ninth inning to tie the game and to score two to win it in the 11th. I give Akron a lot of credit. They played a very good game. They got some key hits, some two-hit RBI and they competed really well.”
Akron took the early lead in the top of the first off Ohio State starter Jake Post. With two down, Devan Ahart doubled down the right-field line and Brady Stewart followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Zips the 1-0 lead.
The Buckeyes then knotted the score off Akron left-hander Pat Dyer in the bottom of the second. After Dyer retired the first two Ohio State hitters of the inning, Craig Nennig reached on a bunt single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI double to left by Connor Sabanosh to tie the game at 1-1.....

Good win last night. Kuhn may be making errors in the field but he is crushing the ball. and ho hum Ronnie Dawson and Jacob Bosiokovic
each with 2 more hits apiece...
Pitching was solid for the most part too. Travis Lakins with three more scoreless innings of relief lowered his ERA from 0.60 to 0.50. He’s allowed one earned run while striking out 14 in 18.0 innings. Not too shabby!

Nice fast start last night against Xavier, like watching Tully pitch. Kid doesn't mess around, gets the ball & is on the rubber. I see Coach Beals moved him into the Sunday starter role this wkend vs. MSU. Like the move. Going to a weird wkend watching us play out of the visitor dugout. Plus the RPI stuff is interesting too. Check this out

Took 2/3 from Sparty this weekend

Tully was impressive again today in a 1-0 win going 7 IP 7 H 0 R 4K/1BB he's now 3-0 with a 0.77 ERA on the season.

Lakins also continue to be phenomenal out of the pen with 2IP 2H 0R 4K/0BB and lowering his ERA to 0.79 on the year

Great pitching today, these Freshmen are really stepping up. Happy 1 run was enough, was very cold today with the wind blowing in but the 9th inning was ugly. Bucks had 1st & 2nd no outs and had a strike em out throw em out. Can't have that. Have to get that bunt down fair. Then B-9th Dawson loses the ball in the sun. I was for sure ready to come out of my seat. Lakins is a beast tho, think Dempsey got bumped from the closer role. Good win
