#5 Butler +6.5 vs #1 Syracuse (ov/un 138.5) Thurs 7:05 ET

sorry, but Syracuse played tonight, not the Big East. if your beef is that ND got in instead of Illinois, go cry to somebody who gives a fuck. neither team would have done anything in the tourney.....so what's the point if it's the Big East's 8th team or the Atlantic 10s 3rd?

if it's stupid for an Ol Miss fan to talk shit to an Ohio State fan in football because of conference wars, it's stupid to crow over GTown and Syracuse leaving early. all I hear is "wah, ESPN talked about the Big East more than my team"
It has nothing to do with the big ten, but you keep trying desperately to make it that way to trivialize the comments. ESPN gushed about the big ten at times this year and have bowed at evan turner's feet for months.

The Big East was regarded as a powerhouse and they've fallen flat on their face in the tournament so people are going to harp on that. It's as simple as that.

I'm just trying to figure out the irrational "OMG LOOK HOW MUCH THE BIG EAST SUXORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!". If it supposedly has nothing to do with the Big Ten, that makes it even worse. So explain it to me.

There are no BE fanboys running around talking about how they should get a free pass into the final four because the conference slate is so tough. I don't hear any Big-East, Big-East, Big-East chants. So if it isn't people being butthurt over the media attention the BE supposedly got, what the fuck is it?

You same people sit here and whine about it when the SEC does it, and now you're doing it. Stop with the fucking conference war bullshit.

Yeah, it's real confusing how a powerhouse falling gets a lot of buzz. :roll2: It's even more confusing when a laundry list of highly ranked teams underperform.

Funny, I don't seem to remember this argument from you when folks rejoice over Duke losing. If UNC actually stunk it up in past years instead of carrying the ACC banner, we'd hear very similar commentary about the ACC falling flat. If the whole conference fell apart, the uproar would be even louder.

You are grossly overblowing this whole thing...

Nothing has been said outside of this:

1) The Big East was heavily hyped by the media all year long, "earning" them 8 teams in the tourney.
2) Justification for #1 has not been seen throughout the tourney, spurning some backlash from fans.
3) The Big East's hype is questionable as to whether or not it was deserved.

People rejoice over DUKE losing, not the ACC. This whole thing just reeks of people being butthurt over praise about the Big East. Guess what......it was well earned. That conference is the best. Individual games in the tournament don't disprove that.

I'm just pissed off about you people bitching about how the SEC uses conference solidarity......then you turn around and use it right back. It's fucking stupid when Georgia fan thumps his chest over the LSU/OSU game, and it's fucking stupid when you say 'LOL The Big Least sucks!!!!'. That's not "buzz" and you know it. It's stupidity.

1. "earning" shouldn't be in quotes.
2. why? did it hurt your fragile mind that the BE was considered the strongest conference (since....you know....it was)
3. maybe by stupid people.

Are media members butt hurt too? How far can you extend your broadsweeping brush to make everyone immature idiots so you can ridicule criticism instead of engaging it in civilized debate?

And Peyton Manning's colts were better than the patriots all decade long. He proved it during the regular season, who cares if it took over a half decade to stop getting waxed in the playoffs?

Someone let USC & Florida know that the big ten was still the best conference in 06.

media members don't ever say things to rile people up. everything that the media says is believed by the people that say it.

of course the media is going to hype the fall of the Big East. because the retards who listen to their stupidity want to hear it. but there's one thing that doesn't jive with all of that.......the Big East didn't play Ohio, or Butler, or Cal. INDIVIDUAL TEAMS did.

i'm not taking anybody's wins away....but are you trying to tell me that the upsets in the tourney erase the 30+ other games that were played during the regular season?

 Well this post is off to a great start. What world are you living in? The media has always been out to create a stir, particularly as their newspapers go belly up and many resort to driving in traffic with inflammatory words.
everything that the media says is believed by the people that say it.
The media frequently references popular opinion (whether by fans or fellow colleagues) and agrees or (more frequently) disagrees with it.
but there's one thing that doesn't jive with all of that.......the Big East didn't play Ohio, or Butler, or Cal. INDIVIDUAL TEAMS did.
So there was no trend here, 27?

Do I think it will happen next year? No, but this wasn't a few outliers. This was the whole conference.

The big east had a great regular season and got the praise they deserved.
The big east had an atrocious tournament and got the criticism they deserved.

I enjoy how they deserved the hype and lofty status heading into the playoffs, but when they fail there, any hype or status based on that is just childish drivel only spouted by or for retards. I guess you can have your gumbo and eat it too.

fix your sarcasm detector.

So what's your point? That the BE performed poorly in the tournament because they were overrated? That's the claim being made. Is Ohio better than Georgetown? Is Xavier better than Pitt? Is Washington better than Marquette? Is Old Dominion better than Notre Dame? Is St Mary's/Robert Morris better than Nova? Is Butler better than Syracuse

On those days they were, but as a whole? Maybe Xavier and Washington....but probably not. I'm finding it hard to see your point here. Are you saying that Ohio could routinely beat the same Georgetown team that beat Syracuse in the BET? Are you saying that Butler would have won 30 games playing Syracuse's schedule? What's this point that is trying to be made if it wasn't just teams that weren't ready to play/matched up poorly?

the first part of this is 100% true......except it doesn't stop at the criticism they deserved. it goes past that and into taking away from the regular season part....which is what I have a problem with.

was the big east as good as most thought? nope... that's why the criticism goes past that and rightfully so.
it wasn't? why? because the tournament decides what was valid from the regular season? that doesn't make much sense.

I guess the ACC would have been the shit this year if that prayer from MSU wasn't answered. FSU was an 8/9 game, but Wake and GTech pulled the upsets while Duke is cruising. Nevermind the fact that the only good team from that conference has yet to play a team with a pulse (and won't until they get Baylor.....if they get Baylor).

Using the tourney to change the regular season is stupid, in my opinion.

it wasn't?
Seriously? You're trying to argue that the big east was as good as most thought two weeks ago?

It doesn't nullify it, but it certainly adds a level of context.

Personally, I have no ill feelings towards the big east like I do with SEC football, but they certainly proved to be a bit overrated when they lost that many tourney games to lower seeds. It doesn't mean they suck, but they certainly weren't as incredible as believed.
