There's also a substantial base of Ohio State fans in NYC. Probably the largest college fanbase there.

Not even close to the domers. Don't let the last 15 years fool you. In the old Catholic NE cities+Chicago there is a still a huge ND following that is just looking for a reason to come out of hibernation and rise from Lake Michigan/Boston Harbor/The East River like Godzilla bubbling to the surface of Tokyo Bay.

There are several posters on this very board who are probably wearing Notre Dame underwear underneath their Buckeye gear. :shake:

I somehow think they will try to stay independent....especially with the season they are having this year.
They are probably in talks with NBC right now trying to re-negiotiate their TV contract right now...

DO NOT WANT ND.

They made their insect-infected bed, now we watch them sleep in it as we demolish the ACC. I'm not blind to the reach of that school (as ORD alluded to), but they burned the bridge. They would be on the wrong side of relevancy if not for their football team this year. I propose that we watch from our ivory tower as they return to mediocrity against the gridiron powerhouses of Wake Forest, NC State, Duke, and BC.

I already like them more than the pedsters.

Oh the older Maryland fans really despise PSU. Having to face a team that brings it's own refs to your games will do that to you.

They're Catholic, not Mormon.

Pods:
North - Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Illinois
Central - Penn State, tOSU, Indiana, Purdue
East - Rutgers, Maryland, UVA, UNC
West - Neraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota

Swap Rutgers and PSU

Get the Pedsters into a POD with other East Coast teams where they seem to want to be anyway

AND gets us a game in the largest market every other year. We could rep the benefit of merchandising dollars and over time maybe even supplant Notre Dame as THE college team in that market.

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/65679/maryland-regents-approve-big-ten-move

The University of Maryland Board of Regents unanimously approved a move to the Big Ten on Monday, a source tells ESPN colleague Brett McMurphy.

An official announcement is expected at 4 p.m. ET at the school's campus in College Park, Md.

Maryland must officially apply for Big Ten membership, and needs a yes vote by at least nine of the 12 Big Ten presidents/chancellors (80 percent required) for admission. This is basically a formality.

After two decades of relative quiet, the Big Ten is poised to expand for the second time in two and a half years. Rutgers is expected to follow Maryland, giving the league 14 members.

Much, much more to come ...
