tOSU Recruiting Discussion

One week out and there seems to be some consensus that as of today the Buckeyes will lose one commit (Carlton Davis), but have a good chance of holding onto everyone else (Weber and Gibson still up in the air).

As for additions, KJ Hill, Isaiah Prince, Porter Gustin and Damon Arnette seem to be the 4 most likely. Landing 3 of the 4 would be an incredible finish. All 4 would be ridiculous, but actually seems possible with a steady stream of good news trickling in.

It will be interesting to see how much the consensus changes over the next week and if any new (or old) names emerge.

Probably can't take 4 even with a decommit...probably could with two (fingers crossed that does not happen). All three of Gustin, Beckner, and Prince have a spot regardless of what happens. Hill might be under that category too and it seems we have a spot reserved for him. Arnette I think is more discretionary and depends on what happens with other guys. But I think the number game will work itself out pretty organically...I think we see one decommit and realistically I think we get 3 at most among Gustin, Beckner, Prince, Hill, and Arnette.

Seems pretty simple what the staff is trying to do down the stretch...they are focusing on four position groups: DL, DB, WR and OL.

In play on the DL appears to be Beckner and Gustin.
In play at DB appears to be Orr and Arnette.
In play at WR appears to be Hill.
In play at OL appears to be Boulware and Prince (I know Wariboko is out there but I think that is all smoke).

I would love to see them fit in Beckner and Gustin but one or the other would be stellar.
I think they want one of Orr and Arnette...let's see how hard they push for Orr this weekend. If they strike out here I am okay with that considering what they have already landed.
I would love to see them add Hill to go along with Stump...which may only further bolster the DB class if EGW starts out there.
It seems to be Boulware is the most likely between him and Prince. Like DB, I'm not as concerned here if they swing and miss on both considering what they already have in the fold this year although I'm sure they don't want to get in a situation where they have to start moving more DL over like they did with Price and Farris and it already looks like one of last years OL might be a bust so you might see them really push here.

I'm guessing they land 2 or 3 more players from that list...with the possibility they could still circle back on some guys they originally passed on.

Let's revisit this list:

In play on the DL appears to be Beckner and Gustin. (both still in play although OSU trending better with Gustin going into the official)
In play at DB appears to be Orr and Arnette. (Arnette seems to be option 1, Orr option 2 to replace Davis)
In play at WR appears to be Hill. (Alabama and OSU battle here...I think OSU can win this one thanks to Ash)
In play at OL appears to be Boulware and Prince (I know Wariboko is out there but I think that is all smoke). (Prince seems to be trending away from Alabama but the Maryland visit looms large...and we have seen this play out before with Stefon Diggs and Damien Prince. I think Boulware reaffirms to Tennessee after his official this weekend)

No one really new to add to this list. I think OSU holds on to Weber, although if he schedules a UM official for this weekend then there is trouble. Auburn appears to be the biggest threat for Gibson, although I think the Meyer in-home is crucial. Everyone else seems to be solid at this point.

I agree with @ShowMeBuck in that I think they can add Gustin, Hill and Arnette while keeping Gibson and Weber. That would be an amazing finish. Prince would just be gravy with the OL haul OSU already has in the fold.

My comment has nothing to do with the quality of Arnette as a player, but why the focus on getting another DB to replace Davis? I obviously don't know the scholarship numbers, but it seems to me that the positions the other players play are more of a need than at DB where we already have several excellent players in this class and in the previous class.

I also was wondering the same. Maybe the staff feels they have a better shot at Arnette than the others. Mods?

I was under the impression you can never have enough db's. There are a lot of plays on D where 5 db's are on the field, plus some of the backup's play special teams. With that many guys getting action there are always injuries and it seems at least 1 guy gets moved to WR or LB every year.
