tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Again I'm reminded of how much angst one can cause oneself if one assigns too much emotional import to the decisions of 17-year-olds.
I'm pretty sure that the Buckeye coaches feel plenty of angst when one of those 17-year-olds de-commits from Ohio State.

Why? Because those 17-year-olds will eventually be asked to win games, conference titles, and national championships for Ohio State.

And to fill Ohio Stadium to capacity for each home game, and to generate highly-rated television broadcasts, for the benefit of fans like you.

And to make millions of dollars for the Ohio State athletic department, which is really the only reason to have a football team in the first place.

Like it or not, recruiting sometimes fickle, sometimes irrational 17-year-olds is the only way to develop and maintain a successful and profitable football program.

So Buckeye Nation, from Urban Meyer on down to the newest fan, is allowed to feel just a little bit of angst when one of those 17-year-olds makes a decision that might negatively impact the Ohio State football program.

Two days in February.....

Signing day

Since Meyer has been here commits the week of sigining day include names such as Bell, Elliot, Wilson, Prince and Hill (and a raft of others).

Disconcerting to see commits not stick, but I am not concerned. Particularly so when these de commits are a direct result of unprecedented depth at key positions.

Besides, remember when Matta filled a couple of classes way in advance? We went through nearly a year where almost nothing happened on the BBall recruiting front.

I gotta have my regular fix.

Greene and Birm are both sitting on a story right now which involves more "movement" in the '16 class. Almost certainly another decommitment.

Followed the link. I know they aren't like the recruiting sites that need to sell subscriptions, but that is what I felt like reading this.... Read in an ominous tone: There are expected changes to the 2016 recruiting class, we don't know what they or are can't tell you, but check back later to find out what... play ominous twilight zone music. Haha, I read elevenwarriors every day and love the info, and I'm not bashing, but that link was pretty funny.

Sometimes you have to sit on news so that you don't burn a quality source. At the same time, you have to show you have quality sources so when dirtbags in the industry try to jump on something first you can point back to things like that post to prove you have the goods and they are full of it.

I get it and am fine with it.

Assuming 25, the following is a finish I would love to see that seems realistic (in order of most wanted)

1.) Jackson
2.) Fuller
3.) Hamlin
4.) Victor
5.) Daniels
6.) Pryts/Hansford

*For clarification, Victor probably should be higher on the want list but it was somewhat based on need. Corley could be listed here too but I would almost have him at (5) behind Daniels. We need 2 DT's still IMO.
**Regarding the Pryts-Hansford option, if we land the majority of the first 5 it's all gravy anyway and I see either of those guys being an awesome get for the last spot and both somewhat similar players as a rangy LB type.

I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but Urban revealed something very interesting about recruiting this week during one of his media appearances. When asked the difference between recruiting at OSU vs. recruiting at a MAC school, he said that position coaches at a MAC school each have 50+ targets per position. At Ohio State, each position coach has 4 targets per position. I imagine once they receive a commitment, they are less likely to continue pursuing all 4 targets. Given that information, I bet we can deduce what their big board looks like.

So, a LB seems to be desired a little more now than earlier in the cycle. Do we sign another to go along with TB and if so, who will it be?
Hansford looked like the guy originally but with Hall decommitting I think you can scratch him off the list.

OSU throwing their hooks in the water on a couple of big name OOS guys recently...Mique Juarez, Bryce Youngquist, Jeffrey McCullough, Dontavious Jackson. Jonathan Jones out of Orlando is a guy I wouldn't mind seeing them throw an offer at as well. Glackin and Sandwisch are probably the best in-state options but both are committed to other schools at this time. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few other names pop up.
