tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Just watched Walker and Williams' midseason highlights back-to-back. Walker is faster, but Williams is better at just about everything else. As much as I initially did not want to lose an explosive player like Walker, Williams looks like a much better fit for the culture of our RB room. His vision, balance, patience and toughness are outstanding. If you want a guy who is going to give you maximum effort on every play, Williams is your guy. Another thing that caught my attention was Williams' noticeable improvement between his junior and senior seasons. Walker basically looks like the same guy he's been for 3 seasons, but Williams looks faster and stronger each year. For a guy with crazy numbers (over 8000 yards in his career so far) to keep improving at the rate he is definitely gets my attention. If the staff has any doubts about Walker, I'm sure they won't be losing sleep if they replace him with Williams. Interested to see how this one shakes out.

Disagree. Walker's also a better pass catcher out of the backfield and looks like a more complete back, ala EZE and Weber. Williams is a little more one-dimensional (strong, physical runner with some quicks), but he's very good at what he does at the HS level. I'd prefer Walker because he would give us a different running style than what we will have in our stable next year, he's a home run hitter with that speed and skill set (which would be a GREAT add with EZE leaving), and he does a little bit of everything well... but you couldn't go wrong with either guy.

Also, not sure how you're coming to the conclusion of Williams being a better cultural fit than Walker. Walker's been very low key in his recruitment and has been a model citizen, by all accounts... especially for one that is rated the #1 RB in the country. Are you sitting on something that no one else in the room knows right now, or are you just throwing things out there?

My biggest concern is what That Team is doing in NJ right now. They have 3 of the top 8 recruits in NJ and could end up with the top two recruits in Gray and Walker if they play their cards to perfection. We've got to have a better presence in that state and need to beat them out for more of those guys in the future.

I like what both RBs bring to the table honestly and don't want to get into the "who's better" discussion. Williams seems like the flavor of the month, yet Walker is still a Buckeye commit! We all knew that keeping him would be a dog fight so this episode shouldn't be a surprise.

EH I have to agree that Williams is better than Walker. Speed is good and all but in this offense speed will only take you as far as first contact. In college you better be able to break tackles or those home runs will not be as frequent as you think. I'd take someone that hits a lot of 20-30 yards due to breaking tackles over a kid who can go 90 if the play goes perfectly.

What he means by Culture IMO is that our offense is a power running offense. It isn't for people who cannot work the inside and cannot finish runs. It's apples and oranges here with wanting speed or wanting a combination. I prefer the more powerful guy only because he also has good enough speed in the open field. As far as receiving put of the backfield there's not much tape on either doing that so I'm not sure you can say Walker is more complete.

You cannot deny that Williams is more in the mold of Carlos and Zeke than Walker is.

I disagree with that Walker assessment, he's also a very tough kid. Let's not act like he's a finesse RB because he's thinking of decommitting, and now Williams is the best thing out there. Walker is the #1 RB for a reason, he plays against tough competition, and I rarely see him shy from contact. Both are tough bigger RBs, since Walker has been committed to OSU fans have raved about his combo of size, toughness and speed, and now all of the sudden he's just a speed back?!? Walker runs mainly inside and also finishes runs. Let's not pile on a kid based on feeling like sour grapes.

What sour grapes? It's my preference. They're both good backs but I'm more impressed with Williams. If we end up with Walker that's fantastic but I like what I see in Williams more.

I never said Walker was a finesse but I'm sorry he's not as physical as Williams and that's ok because he has other attributes that are good. This is all my opinion and Walker is still a member of our recruiting class at this moment but either way I like Williams style more

You do not ever want to lose a consensus 5 star recruit...you do not ever want to lose a consensus 5 star recruit to scUM
Wasn't Green the RB from Virginia that is currently the backup at scUM a former 5 star?

I'd be pumped with either and you have to imagine we get one of the two. So either way with one of them coming in early and Mike Weber coming back I like where we are at RB.

Just curious, does anyone think that if Williams commits this week, OSU will continue to chase Walker. To me next years RB depth chart looks shallow. I don't think Samuel is a 15 to 20 carry "feature" back and nobody else has shown they anything close to Zeke's level in games. With Weber injured, RB in 2016 is a big question mark to me.
