'05 GA TE Stephen Gowland (Auburn walk-on)

Gowland is rated the #43 prospect in the state of Georgia by Rivals.com. Obviously the people over at Rivals are complete idiots :p

I got an e-mail from Stephen earlier today. He mentioned just getting back from a mission trip to Mexico that he went on with his church. Of the three trips he's taken this summer he liked Auburn a little better than Florida and Georgia. Football practice starts this week and he and his father are hoping to make a trip to Columbus this weekend so they can look around the campus.

I think Gowland would make up big time for our loss of Irizarry. Izzy would've given us a great combination of size, speed, and power at TE, and many of us were excited at the prospect of him playing a lot this year, prior to his incidents. Gowland is even taller and faster than Irizarry and appears to have his stuff together life-wise. We need to get this kid.

Thanks for doing the interview Stephen. We have a couple good Atlanta players on the team. Harlen Jacobs CB and Branden Mitchell DB. Have you ever had a chance to play against them, or have you watched them play when they were in High School?

I hope you enjoy your visit to Columbus this weekend. Be sure to check out the stadium (known as the shoe) (short for horseshoe). :)

I don't know why we aren't recruiting more TE's in this class. After the 2005 season, we would only have 2 TE's-Hoobler and Nicol-on the roster. I'd like to see Hoobler get a shot at MLB, so TE depth becomes even more critical. Hopefully we can snag Gowland and another good TE in this class.
