'06 OH OT Lee Tilley (Auburn Verbal Commitment)

Gary has an comment in a thread about Tilley after the Tremendous 26 photo/interview session. You can read it $here$.

Basically says both sides have drawn a line in the sand. The situation sounds vaguely familiar to Brandon Harrison from last year.

I wonder if Tilly's apparant hesitation to attend any more camps is due to his performance at the Nike camp a few weeks back. Rumor has it he had an ok workout did not have one of his great day (and from his film he has definitly had some great days). If so he should realize, although performance at the camps definetly counts towards evaluating a player, there are many other factors both he and coaches benifit from the camps. I hope he changes his mind, because he has the size you can't teach and Ohio-State the last couple of years has followed this blueprint of extending in state offers at camp. And you have to believe this is by design....get all the best in staters together and pick the "best of the best".

I don't blame him at all! With 40+ offers, he has nothing to prove at camp. The only difference from the Harrison situation is Harrison didn't have offers from Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, FSU, Arizona, Pitt, Penn State, Iowa, LSU, Georgia, ASU, Washington....One of the most impressive offer list in the country. But you do have to wonder why everyone offers, but not the primere team in his state.

I would guarantee every OOS offer is based on measurements and film evaluation...as the in-state school, tOSU can get first-hand evaluations from "bird dogs" and various other sources. Didn't he attend tOSU camp before also?

The OOS schools do not have that type of info...

The Tilley Nike camp comments were a flame by someone who is going to scUM's little brother... He only had 2 one on one opportunities...

There are a plethora of reasons that Tilley will probably not camp or end up at OSU. None of these reasons have anything to do with:

1. Grades
2. Talent
3. Attitude

Tilley is incredible in all these areas! After the next term is posted his gpa will be alot nicer. Sometimes things in recruiting are not what they seem. This is one of those cases. Do not blame a quality kid with a great personality for this situation... BTW do not blame the staff either. It was just not meant to be...apparently...

Just out of curiousity, why would we not "blame" the staff for not landing Tilley if a Junior Day "snub" was involved in his (or his family's) cooling on the program? I'm not suggesting anything, just wondering. Personally, I wouldn't blame the staff either if that's the way it is going to be viewed (petty?), but in a sense, you could "blame" the staff.

That's not always true. Does Miami offer every South Florida player that OSU is after? Nope. Holmes, Dukes, Salley, etc.

That's a completely different situation. Holmes, Dukes, and Salley had nowhere near the offer list that Tilley has. That's what throws up the red flag. All these national offers, but not from his own in-state team.

The word here in Springfield is that Tilley's Mother is saying no to OSU. She has been upset at the number of arrests by OSU players. And does not want Lee to fall into the trap that many have fallen into.

When I hear anymore I will post it.

If tOSU gets serious about recruiting Tilly, I am sure an in-home with Coach JT can change her mind on that.
But it sounds as though we need to get into the game sooner than later.

From what I understand, not even a visit from JT can help the Bucks at this point. The Tilley camp isn't even taking phone calls from the OSU staff at this point. I think we are probably going to focus on 1) Connor Smith 2) Aaron Brown and 3) a major OOS recruit, like a J.B. Walton...

If that's the case, so be it. Brown and Smith would make this a terrific OL class. Then consider someone like Palmer, or an out of stater, if a 3rd OL is wanted. Let Tilley go somewhere out of state and wish him luck. If it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be.

Can you inform us what the reason is? Premium?
Highstreet is a bit closer to the situation than I am, but from what I have heard, it has to do with a few factors which includes lack of an offer from OSU and the disciplinary problems which have plagued our football team as of late.

Lee is an extremely talented football player...his offer sheet speaks for itself. The OSU staff obviously thinks highly of Lee but has other players they are interested in as much if not more. They would prefer to evaluate Lee in person at camp, and from what I understand, Lee has no intentions of attending OSU's camp without an offer in hand. Thus, things are at a bit of an impasse...
