'06 OH WR Josh Chichester (Louisville signee)

thanks wadc..been hearing some rumblings..

me too, but the best thing we can do is treat them as just that until we hear something otherwise. there is also the small matter of a recruit's privacy (not just Josh's, but all recruits in general...but that's a topic for another thread), although the Internet age of recruiting has kind of thrown that out the window. anyways, we'll see what we can find out...

Chris Nida on BSB reports that Chichester is in danger of not making the grades to meet OSU's admissions. Might explain the push for a bunch of the WR's committed elsewhere at the end of the season if true.

Was this the 'rumbling' you were hearing?

Wow, that's some really bad news. I hadn't heard anything like this until a couple of days ago. I was really counting on Josh to be a big redzone threat in the coming years. Anybody know what he needs to improve upon to get into tOSU?

as mentioned above, while we have heard the same "rumblings" no one has been able to confirm anything yet. stay tuned...

Obviously it will take a few weeks to sort this out, this stuation has been building for several weeks. Privacy is privacy when it comes to grades and I want to respect that.

However, I am interested in how a kid with a reported 3.4 (?) GPA ends up not eligible. I guess is possible to loose that much focus. But how could he still be eligible to play HS BB if that it the case? I had several kids on my sons teams not eligible to play games because of poor grades.

Hope he end up doing well where ever.

I'm not sure about OHSAA rules, but in SC, if you are eligible at the start of the seaon based the final semester grades completed, you are eligible for that entire season. Some schools employ a shorter time-defined eligibility rule, but as far as state eligibility, if you start, you can finish.

Also, watching a kid plummet is a nightmare. I have a D1 OT in my room every day who did the same thing and now he has to go to JUCO because his 3 point whatever hit the floor after he slacked off.

Two points - the Lakota West report cards come out today, 1/25. Perhaps we will see a change in their line-up for future GMC games should the worst of these reports prove true. Secondly, the eligibility requirements are clearly stated for athletic participation in the Lakota SD handbook. They are in line with OSHAA criteria - the emphasis is on passing grades in solid subjects (core courses). The Cumulative GPA hurdle for Lakota Athletic participation sounds shockingly low at 1.0, but realistically it would impossible to get passing grades in the solids and only a 1.0 GPA.

Lastly, Lakota is an excellent rated school district. No matter the use of "uniform" curricula there will always be a tendency for a 2.0 - 2.5 GPA from Lakota to be a tougher grade than that from a district on Academic Watch. So, even if Josh is having some difficulty today, he may be capable of still suiting up in Scarlet & Gray - it just might be a longer journey. (Plus there is the fact that he has a 3.2 GPA earlier reported, which makes me wonder about the whole business).

EDIT -grad21 - there are also weekly criteria to be completed at Lakota West, so its not just a clean pass to suit up based on past classroom grades - kids have to keep up their workload.
