'06 VA WR/CB Damon McDaniel (Florida State signee; transfer to Hampton)

I hope you're right but I seriously doubt it. Why is it so hard to believe that with only 14 seniors on next year's roster that they may want to bank an extra schollie or two? even if Ginn leaves, that is still only 15 spots...add in another two or thee for kids leavings or entering the draft, minus one or two for former walk-ons being awarded a scholarship. You still are left with 16-17 schollies for next year. so if they told DJ there wasn't a spot, it doesn't necessarily mean it is because Mathews or McDaniel are headed here.

I am like you HotMic, my head is telling me we get Damon but my gut is feeling otherwise. But why would we tell Derrell that, not offer Anthony Bowman, lose Chichester to grades, and cool on Wes Lyons. IMO, the staff thinks we get another WR tommorrow.

I have to believe that one of either McDaniel or Matthews is coming here tomorrow. It just doesn't make any sense for the staff to say Darrell was "a victim of the numbers game" when we still had three spots open (2 now with Grant). Even if Peters comes here, that still left one spot open.

Maybe i'm looking way too much into this though, because my gut still is telling me Damon to FSU and Greg to Michigan.

Call me a realist.... I think what we have is it. Mattews is going to Michigan and McDaniel is going to FSU

something doesn't add up..josh chichester is "let go"..Bowman..who OSU had an inhome scheduled for is dropped like a bad habit and DJ is told no room at the buckeye inn...hope to God McDaniel is coming and that put those things in motion..

again...banking valuable schollies for next season where Ohio and the Midwest are LOADED is the more likely scenario...

But why bank for next year with only one WR coming in who may have grade issues? You would have thought they would have turned away other spots (like LB'er) before they turned away WR's. And if the staff was content with that number, why were they hard after Damon clear up until the silent period? Why did he come for a visit? Again, i'm prob. just looking into it too much. I'm not setting myself up for a letdown this year!! Either way, we will end with a great class!!!

WR wasn't a need this year... They were after Damon because if you have a shot at a player his caliber, you have to take him.

Well, look at how many WR's we have already on the team. Consider also that Small could very well end up at WR from this class. In terms of numbers, there is no shortage of guys already. Heck, we're moving guys to the defense, we have so many. It's not what I would consider an area of need.

And with so much talent in 07's class coming from OH and neighboring states, it make sa lot more sense to hold onto a few, given how few are coming open next year.

not a premium subscriber, but I was wondering what the posters on FSU's sites are thinking about McDaniel. HotMic is right, they are pursuing Damon awful hard and need to be as we have Small as our lone WR recruit (grades are a major concern with him). We need Damon as part of this class IMO.
Why does wadc45 think he is such a longshot to come here, their is obviously mutual interest between him and the staff.

Agree 100%

given that Ohio is loaded next year, why not bank a 'ship if there isn't somebody out there that you think is a true immediate difference maker that you can't pass up. we are loaded at wr for forseable future.

McDaniel has not done an interview in almost a month...how do we know the staff has been going after him hard??? Bowman came for a visit and the staff barely talked to him again after that. Do you honestly think the staff wants to start off next year's class with only 15 or so spots to hand out. JT's first task when he got here was to try and get balance in each class...both position wise and numbers wise. JT has often said that to him, the right number is around 19 or 20 per class. So I ask you all once again...why not bank a schollie or two, especially when they are so valuable next year?

I hope I am wrong...but I am willing to bet that Mathews and McDaniel will not be a part of this class.

If we have limited scholarships next year, then why are we telling DJ that he can 'greyshirt' and get a 'ship next year? The only logic that i see is that McDaniel is coming here.

DJ said in an interview on BN on 1/29 that the staff has never discussed the idea of greyshirting with him....

this thread is about McDaniel...if you all want to discuss DJ's situation, please do so in his thread.

I understand banking the 'ships, I really do. In fact, I like that about Tress. I would hate to take a bunch of players in one year, and then not be able to offer kids who want to be Buckeyes come the next year. Here is what i'm saying though, if your going to bank them...then bank them. If Tress knows he is going to bank them, then why even go after McDaniel? He came here on a visit,so there must be some interst there....right?
