'08 OH RB/LB Devoe Torrence (Akron signee, transfer to ??)

Per Crabtree on Rivals Radio, he thinks Torrence could be the crown jewel of this class for us. He thinks he can be a stud on either side of the ball, though he did admit that DeVoe is an RB first.

Just FYI for the peeps...

It is going to be hard to pick a crown jewel from this class, well until we pull in Pryor, but we have some many good players that it is a great problem that we have with being able to pick a crown jewel...

With that said it is nice to see Torrence getting the credit he deserves...I am excited to see him this year at a big school and see how he does...

Word up CBF40. For me, being a former OL, the crown jewel is Block O, hopefully avec Jenkins. Adams and Brew started it all and if in fact, we do get Pryor and Jenkins, it will be due to their recruiting efforts.

Once again the great thing is that you just mentioned 5 guys and have mentioned Torrence, but havent even gotten to 4 and 5 star top 100 guys like Posey, Scott, Stoney, Sweat, Goebell, Williams, and then don't forget we have the best kicker in the country in BB...

This class is just unreal when you look at it on paper...

I understand they all will have to produce before we can right it down as one of the best classes ever, but there is nothing short of a great recruiting by the staff and co recruiting cordinators...

If we pull Scott, Goebell, Pryor, and Jenkins, and whoever else we get it will just be an unreal class, and about as well as you could do with the limited number of ships...I hope that Adams and all them can pass the torch to a couple guys the 09 class and they can do the same...

Or maybe Tress should just hire Matta to recruit for him...:tongue2:

DEVOE TORRENCE DOES WELL

At a high school football scouting combine last month in Pittsburgh, former Canton South running back DeVoe Torrence, now at Massillon, opened plenty of eyes. Observers say the Ohio State recruit was among the top five at the regional event. Torrence ran a 4.53 40-yard time and had his way in drills with Shayne Hill, a top-rated linebacker from Monroeville, Pa.

Devoe is working hard this summer and will be playing WLB and RB at Massillon. However, he will have to compete for carries.

This is the most open Devoe has been about possibly playing LB in college.

I have gotten too used to the idea of him at RB and hope that is where he stays. Now, if we bring in Beachum along with Torrence then I guess we can try them both out and see where the chips falls, but after watching Devoe on film he is too good a RB to play LB, IMO.

For the second year in a row, the Massillon Tigers will have a player up for consideration to be in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. On Thursday, DeVoe Torrence was presented with a nomination to be one of the 80 players from across the country chosen for the all-star game, which will be played on Jan. 5 and televised nationally on NBC.

Three months ago, DeVoe Torrence arrived in Massillon with plenty of fanfare. Now, with his first two-a-day practice as a Tiger just over a month away, the senior is finding his way around the Tiger program.

?Oh yeah, it?s been fine,? Torrence said Monday evening. ?I fit right in with everybody. I?m just working hard and trying to get ready for the season.? Torrence was an All-Ohio running back at Canton South as a junior last season, rushing for 981 yards with another 645 yards receiving. He also registered 127 tackles as a linebacker.

That production paid off with a scholarship offer from Ohio State, which he accepted in March. It also garnered him a nomination to next January?s U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, one of 400 football players nationwide to gain such an honor.

?It?s very special,? Torrence said. ?It?s the biggest game of its type out there. Just being nominated is great. That?s showing my talents are paying off.?.

I was just reading a past article about Devoe, after his Pitt combine, where he talks about he and Devon wearing jerseys with "D.Torrence" on the back. Do they need their whole names? And, could they each wear th same number, say #22, since one plays offense and one pays defense? They could play some mind games on people with that... :).
