'09 IL DE Craig Drummond (Ole Miss Signee)

Cinfali;1158191; said:
Maybe they confused him with Fellows who also had a USC offer. I don't think staff is pursuing Drummond very hard right now.

MD Buckeye;1158193; said:
Exactly what I was thinking. Probably heard that tOSU landed a DE and somehow Illinois was related to the prospect and figured it was Drummond.

Well, it's not like they couldn't go check a few major sites to validate...

Morgan Park defensive end Craig Drummond is the "leading prospect" in Illinois, according to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.
(Mark Kuefner/For the Sun-Times)

"Drummond is clearly the leading prospect. He is like Richard Dent in high school," Lemming said. "But he has been downgraded a bit by some analysts and college coaches because they aren?t sure if he will qualify academically. I don?t get that. What has he done to warrant being dropped? He hasn?t played a game since November.

"He is still the best player I have seen. Defensive ends are more difficult to discover than offensive linemen. Watt is one of the best offensive linemen in the country and he gets more attention because he is a good student. But Drummond has great speed and burst and explosive moves that give him an edge."

RECRUITING: Drummond changes mind on Illinois :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Colleges

Morgan Park defensive end Craig Drummond, who committed to Illinois on his 18th birthday in November, said Sunday night he has re-opened his recruiting process and is seriously considering Mississippi. ''Illinois no longer is in the picture,'' said the 6-5, 265-pound Drummond, who is rated among the top 100 seniors in the nation. ''There was some stuff going on with them -- I don't want to talk about it -- but I didn't feel it was the right place for me. This is the best decision for me.'' He said he will visit the Ole Miss campus this weekend and plans to look at other schools. National signing day is Feb. 4.

My understanding is that their were problems with admissions...I don't know that the decision was really Drummond's to make but that is only what I have heard.
