'09 OH RB Bud Golden (Illinois Verbal)

Other Positions?

He really seems like a great athlete. I wouldnt be surprised if Golden could play quite a few spots. CB, Safety, WR or RB. He has very good speed and seems to have great balance and good feet. He was wonderful size to fit into multiple positions. I like the kid and if the grades are there and we have 25 ships to give then I am all for an offer. I really think we could get 80 to 90 percent of our guys from Ohio this year if everything works out well. I really liked his film but what do I know. Go Bucks

From the Marshall site...Miami (OH) and Akron are his newest offers, joining Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Bowling Green and Ohio. Marshall, Maryland and South Carolina have stepped up their contact.

Talks about his trip to the Spring Game. No offer has been extended to Bud, but the coaches told him to "pick up 15 pounds and he would fit in real well".

Now that J.Berry has his offer, Bud is the next guy without an offer I would like to see get one. I love his go-for-the-endzone-every-play mentality and if he does gain some weight, ought to be a nice complement to Berry.

I think the fact they want him to gain 15 pounds mean they view him as being the big back in the class...to go with Berry as the smaller back and see Hall as slot WR or DB...

Know its waaaay early, but not a whole lot on Hyde lately. Wouldn't surprise me if we end up with the Bud-ster, along w/Berry in the end...assuming Hall ends up on D. OK, by me.

Do you think they want him to gain 15 pounds of fat?

That's exactly what I meant.:wink2: I think cbf40 put into words my own unspoken supposition that perhaps the staff views Bud as more of a slasher in the Boom mold that could benefit from ultimately playing at 210-215. As compared to J. Berry who is a legit. breakaway threat.

I don't think Hyde is necessarily out of play, but that is just what I make from the lack of news about him lately, and the fact that the staff told Golden to gain 15 pds and he would get an offer...

215 is a good weight for Bud, but I'm curious why they would ask him to do that before he would get an offer. If there are questions about his ability to keep weight on or if he were to lose quickness or speed at 215, maybe OSU and Bud Golden are not a good fit for one another. The kid runs just fine at 200 right now and if OSU offers him, I see him redshirting any way. Why does he need to be 215 right now to get an offer??

I'm sorry, but that bothers me...I think Bud may be a better fit someplace other than OSU. Just my opinion, and probably an unpopular one.

Coaches do this all the time...Much like they asked Rowell to get down around 300 last year before he would get an offer...

It shows dedication, hard work, and also it shows the staff that you can get to that weight...They have the ability to do that because they have lots of kids that want to come here, and if they feel Golden at 215 is a better prospect at 200 and they want to make sure he can gain the weight, keep his speed and shiftiness and be the prospect they think he can be...

I am sure some kids would take this the wrong way, but in the coaches eyes that might show that the kid wasn't dedicated to the program anyways and they will move on...
