'09 TX QB Russell Shepard (LSU Signee)

Rivals $

5/20

From the Texas site...coaches from Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, UCLA, Florida and Virginia have been in to see Russell this spring. He has decided not to focus on recruiting right now and instead focus on his upcoming season.

Texas is supposedly loaded with Quarterbacks(at least two five stars in Sheppard and someone with the last name Gilbert IIRC), so it would be awesome to pluck Sheppard out of there. I really think if Texas doesn't get him, then he'd definitely go out of state.

That article is interesting...most QB's won't admit that WR's and the best team will win out. He seems like he would want early PT though, something UT will have a better shot at offering if we land TP. Still a ton of time to go though.

Even if we get Pryor, it's unlikely he would have done enough on the field as a true Freshman to scare off other highly talented QBs -- particularly not one who is #27's cousin.

I really like this possibility. Thanks for starting up the thread. This one should be fun to watch for the next year or so.

I agree completely, there's no reason to be scared by other recruits, I'm sure he has the confidence to come in and compete with whoever is here if he comes to C-bus. Which I hope 27 has been been working on that, no better recruiter then a former All Pro, future Hall of Fame, Heisman Trophy winning, millionaire cousin.

From the Texas site...picked up recent offers from ASU and BC. Also has offers from Arkansas, Alabama, Tulsa, Minnesota, Iowa, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Nebraska. Favors Texas, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Arkansas, USC and Ohio State.

Interesting to see him picking up an offer from ASU after they just got Jack Elway to verbal.

That kid has SICK speed. His film from sophomore year on Rivals was incredible. He is every bit of that 4.4 speed listed for him. He also has some very sharp passing skills, even more reason to be excited about him.

That stiff-arm he gave out at the end of his run at the 2:35 mark of the sophomore highlights (rivals) was very impressive, especially for a quarterback.

As far as skill set goes, he sounds a lot like Perrilloux coming out of highschool. He's going to make some program very happy, but I really doubt it will be Ohio State if we land Pryor.

Secondly, as far as ASU goes, it really doesn't matter if they just landed Jack Elway. He's a pocket passer, and isn't THAT highly ranked. Secondly, most teams take 1 qb a year, this usually wont scare a quarterback from committing to a certain school, especially if they dont have a star qb committ starting as a true freshman.

That seems to contradict the first part where you say you dont see him coming here because of Pryor. We could create a two-class seperation between the two by redshirting Sheppard and working Pryor onto the field as a true freshman.

Not saying he's coming here, but it'd atleast like to see how this plays out, and I wouldnt be surprised if we didnt get involved more-so with Russell.

Hey offers from Oregon and LSU and 3 stars.... not too shabby.
