1/5/06 Top 5 Rankings Prediction

We still have some regular season left. I think we may still have an upset or two.

But I'd go with this top 5 at the end of the season (05-06)

1 Texas
2 PSU
3 USC
4 LSU
5 tOSU

here's to really hoping that stanford beats ND

I think that we might just get Notre Dame in a bowl and beat them. If so, I have us at #4. I also think Texas will beat USC by enough to let Joe Pa sneak in ahead of them. If we don't get Notre Dame, then we could slip to #5 if LSU does really well.

1. Texas
2. Penn State
3. USC
4. tOSU
5. LSU

So the '02 Class finishes with final rankings of 1, 4, 19, 4/5?
ohio state (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005; ap poll)
1, 4, 20, currently at 7 = 32

texas
6, 12, 5, currently at 2 = 25

miami
2, 5, 11, currently at 10 = 28

georgia
3, 7, 7, currently at 13 = 30

so...

miami needs to finish at least 8 places behind ohio state in the ap poll and georgia needs to finish at least 9 places behind ohio state in the ap poll for ohio state to be the third best team of the last four years, according to the ap poll. i find no other teams that are competing with ohio state for being ranked third. texas will surely not drop far enough for ohio to be propelled to second. when ohio state wins their bcs bowl game, the team will move up, making it much more likely that ohio state will at least jump into fourth, if not third, instead of remaining as the fifth highest rated team of the last four years.

edit: it should be noted that, of course, ohio state may end being the only team among the four to have won a national championship in the last four seasons. i know that's a "duh" statement; however, that title should merit a bonus point, vaulting us to the ranking as the second best team of the last four years.

1. Notre Dame - awarded after they trounce West Va/USF 55-31, Charlie Weis is given another 10 year extension and a golden Touchdown Jesus statuette. The BCS dropped for the NDCS.
2. USC - They're not more talented than Texas... but it's hard to believe their games v. Fresno St. and Notre Dame weren't proof enough of their strength of will. 35-32.
3. Texas - In all fairness, a 1-loss team shouldn't be below a 2-loss team that they beat.
4. Ohio St. - Drinkin' the Scarlet Kool-aid (oddity on this board, I know). Defeats VT 107-0 (superfan parody): DAAAA BUCKS
5. Jawja - Beats LSU and then Penn St. behind DJ Shockley and a very good D.

...#17 Oregon - Blown out by whoever their B10 opponent is. Pac-10 whiners shut up after this.
