If there are any Scholly's left, I think JT awards them to walk ons as has been his custom (Devin Barclay). Any more punters would have to walk on IMO at this stage.

Barclay is not on scholarship. Tressel and the staff do do this, but it is generally to Senior walk ons that will be gone the next year anyway, thus not tieing up the scholarship for the following recruiting class.

I'm not certain, but Barclay may not need a football scholarship. He was a member of Major League Soccer's Project-40/Generation Adidas program when he came out of high school, and one of the perks was that not only did players in this program get a salary and guaranteed, exempted roster spot, but they also received money that would go towards their eventual college educations. I don't know the specifics on how much this was or whether it would cover all the education costs that a normal student incurs, but it's likely that at least part of his education is paid for by MLS.

Er, and to keep this on topic, I wonder whether John Lloyd or another senior punter has been approached by OSU for a preferred walk-on spot like Thoma got?

While I know that John expected more attention than he has received from the recruiting staff, he would be open to other options from the Buckeye camp. He'd rather take a red/grey shirt option here than go off and play (or red shirt) at Arkansas, Tennessee or Texas A&M.

Being closer to home and more familiar surroundings is appealing to him. He has been really close to a deal with Cincinnati (football and baseball), but there's a lot of uncertainty there right now. A grey shirt means 5.5 years of college, but I think he'd be interested in that

University of Louisville has offered John.

I did some research on kickers/punters interested in Louisville and I was surprised to learn that there are two 2 star Scout.com kickers/punters that are from Louisville. One I believe was committed and I think he still is. The other I've been told is very close to being offered too. Wonder what's going on with the Ohio kid being offered too?

After looking at the schools with interest in the Ohio kid my guess is he'll never step foot on Louisville's campus to play football. Once word gets out that he's been offered, the other schools courting him will come calling with offers.

Welch, Lloyd Top Choices For All-TSF.com

By Dan Clasgens | Managing Editor

The final results were released on Tuesday for the 2009 Postseason All-TriStateFootball.com team and while many of the names on the list could have been suspected, there were some surprises.

Elder tight end Alex Welch and CHCA punter John Lloyd were unanimous top selections across all three sectors of the voting ? the fan vote, coaches? ballot, and media ballot.

Welch, a Notre Dame, commit was big both as a receiver and a blocker for the Panthers this season. He finished his Elder career with 73 catches for 1,070 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Lloyd led the entire state of Ohio for the second straight year with 44 yard per kick average with an astounding 46 percent of kicks going inside the 20. Amongst his many post-season honors he was named First-Team All-State in Ohio Division V.

With those credentials there is NO WAY he goes to Louisville for football. Every other school on his list should be beating down his door starting today. Very impressive stats to say the least. Still can't understand why he's only a one star on Scout.com. The Louisville area kicker/punters are both two stars. I've seen both of those guys do their thing and they are very good.

Very interesting why Louisville is after all three. Maybe they offered this kid so as to get one or both of the others to commit faster. I wonder which one of the three punters is Louisville's plan "A" punter and which is the plan "B"? Who knows. The way recruiters do their thing it could be any of them. Time will tell.
