Scout $ - Turene Adds Two More Offers

7/16

By The Bank....Recent offers from Oklahoma State & Ohio State. Says he would like to visit Ohio State when they play Miami on September 11th. Is verbally committed to USC, but says he wants to take visits to make sure of his decision.

It sorta seems like he wants to be out of Florida--which is a good sign for the good guys.

I wonder how much recruits actually understand how USC's loss of scholarships is going to hurt the program over the next 4 years...at first blush it might not seem as obvious as it will be.

Not optimistic...I think OSU's best bet is some combination of DePriest, Price, Caputo and Crowell...and like diddy, I think OSU takes two LBs this year. I don't think Curtis Grant or Turene are legitimate options...and I think if Sturdivant makes it in, he moves to the line. There are still some great options in-state like Antonio Poole and Steven Daniels and some decent out-of-state options like Gateway's Armstead Williams.

USC recruits unfazed by negative recruiting from competing teams - Andy Staples - SI.com

Kent Turene knew he'd get a response from coaches of the other schools recruiting him when he committed to USC earlier this month. He just didn't expect that response to be so strong. "They asked what I was thinking," said Turene, a linebacker from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who joined dozens of other top prospects last weekend for the Champion Gridiron Kings seven-on-seven tournament. "They said I was a fool. It was crazy."

Turene actually burst onto the scene in his sophomore season when he utilized the talented Boyd Anderson secondary to help him learn and improve at linebacker. In fact, the Cobras had one of the most talented defensive units in South Florida, and the 6-0, 200-pound Turene fit right in.

After receiving dozens of offers, seeing what the best fit for his future would be, Turene was won over by the approach Trojans' head coach Lane Kiffin had toward his players. It was Kiffin and his staff who had actively pursued Turene when he was at Tennessee.

Even with all the negative talk about the next two to four years of probation and sanctions at USC, Turene looked at things a lot differently than most, and while things figure to be rough for a few years, tradition will bring the program back.

"USC is one of those programs with plenty of history and tradition," Turene said. "You are in one of the largest cities in the world with a large alumni base that is large and very supportive. I'm confident that things will be okay."

As a football player, there is no secret that even though he had so many offers, recruiting analysts and those who cover high school football haven't elevated Turene to a status when he should be. After last weekend, when most had the chance to see him for the first time ? up close and personal ? they were impressed.

Watching him play against premier athletes, they were all impressed at his size, the ground he covers and what he could do at the next level.

"This was the first time I really had the chance to watch Kent live and I was impressed at how big he is and how well he runs," explained Mike Langston of FloridaVarsity.com. "You just cannot appreciate how large he is from watching film. You see him up close and see the things he does makes you a believer."
