Tight Ends Emerging at Just the Right Moment at OSU
By John Porentas
This may well be the year that that Buckeyes rediscover the tight end.
Tight ends were an integral part of the OSU offense early in the Jim Tressel era. Tressel made great use of Darnell Sanders in his first season at the Buckeye helm and Ben Hartsock was a mainstay in the OSU offense. Then suddenly they disappeared. It wasn't so much that Tressel decided that tight ends weren't important. It was just that the Buckeyes suddenly had so many other weapons.

"How do you wear a trash bag," Wilson was asked.
"You cut the head out and you cut the arms out so it fits," said Wilson with a straight serious face and without batting an

Reminds me of the stories about Archie wrapping himself in plastic and doing sit ups in his parents station wagon in the middle of summer with the windows up.

Whatever it takes.

That seems to be the attitude.

"He's got all the arm you possibly could need. I think he's thrown the deep ball as well as we've had anybody throw the deep ball since we've been here," Tressel said.

oh man... it's this kind of stuff that really gets my blood boiling... i love to pound the ball, then hit 'em with the deep play action!

the kids are demonstrating a hunger that i simply can't recall.

OSU players say shortage of seniors not a problem
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
By RUSTY MILLER
AP Sports Writer

COLUMBUS It's that time of year when football teams blab on and on about how important their senior leadership will be.

You don't hear that coming out of Ohio State. That's because seniors are on the endangered list.

By extension, no one knows for certain if there will be a commensurate shortfall of that hard-to-measure intangible called leadership.

A scan of Ohio State's roster shows only 12 seniors among the 110 players in fall camp. Compare that with the 40 players who are freshmen in terms of eligibility.

Capable backups have tailback's back
If Beanie Wells falters, trio ready to carry load

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

In regard to Ohio State's outlook at tailback this season, it's easy to be distracted by the tree -- sophomore Beanie Wells -- and not see the forest.
The coaches like everything about the forest thus far, from the branching out of junior Maurice Wells to the strapping saplings, freshmen Brandon Saine and Daniel "Boom" Herron.
"We're probably deeper at that position right now than we've been since we've been at Ohio State," seventh-year offensive coordinator Jim Bollman said.

Rest? Not for long

The Buckeyes have had a grueling camp so far, with more hitting than usual. Coach Jim Tressel said he thought his players looked a little tired and sluggish in Saturday's jersey scrimmage.
They had 24 hours off after the scrimmage, but Tressel had no plans to back off the pace.
"You kind of have to grind through it, because you have to prepare," he said. "And then hopefully, when you get to game week, you just feel tremendously light and ready to go. So no, we won't (ease up).

Depth, Speed and Calm at RB

This season is going to be awesome.

Depth:

"We're probably deeper at that position right now than we've been since we've been at Ohio State," seventh-year offensive coordinator Jim Bollman said.

Speed:

The surprise, Bollman said, has been the quick rise of Saine, the state high school record-holder in the 100-meter dash (10.38 seconds) from Piqua, and Herron, who hails from Warren Harding,

Maturity and Calm:

Running backs coach Dick Tressel has been impressed, as well.
"They are mature football players," he said. "They came in and showed they understood the game from the start. That is such a huge plus for them.
"The thing that surprises you always is when young guys are calm, because in this type of setting it's easy to panic. Those guys have been calm."
After Saturday's scrimmage, right tackle Kirk Barton was asked whether he had noticed Saine's speed.
"He's definitely fast; Boom Herron is fast, as well," Barton said. "Those guys both can fly.
"They are going to have very good careers here. They both have a lot of talent. They both work really hard. ... I worked out with them all summer. They are both guys we are looking forward to contributing."

Go Bucks :osu:

Football
Bollman Smiling Over Offensive Line Talent Despite Injury Situation
By John Porentas
When it comes to offense everybody likes to talk about those sexy positions, you know, like quarterback, wide receiver, running back, but the game of football has always been one in which the guys who have their hand on the ground when the ball is snapped have more to do with the outcome than anyone else on the field. A great quarterback or tailback with no blocking is, for all intents and purposes, just so much cannon fodder for any average defense. Football teams fail or succeed depending on how well those big guys up front perform.
