CBS just ran their season preview show as the lead-in to their PGA Tour coverage. Gary Danielson's championship game matchup was Florida vs LSU. His choice was due to (1) He hates that it's even possible, so as long as it is, he's hoping for the most absurd scenario if it'll end the BCS system and (2) He thinks Florida loses to LSU, while LSU loses to Alabama. Florida beats 'Bama in SEC title game, leaving Florida and LSU as once beaten teams. Everybody else has at least one loss, so they get a rematch for the title. He argued if it could have almost happened with OSU/UM in '06, it'll almost happen again someday, so why not this year?

Other guys at the desk (Brando, Tillman, etc) had two selections for a rematch of UF/OU, and one prediction of UF/UT.

EA Sports' 100-season simulator predicted most common outcome of UF over PSU.

Todd wins Auburn QB job

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Chris Todd is Auburn's starting quarterback.

Coach Gene Chizik announced after Thursday's practice that the senior would start the Tigers' season opener against Louisiana Tech. Former starter Kodi Burns will work at receiver and as the quarterback in the wildcat formation.

Todd missed the first spring practice in Gus Malzahn's offense after having shoulder surgery in December.

He beat out Burns, Neil Caudle and freshmen Tyrik Rollison and Clint Moseley.

Todd went 3-2 as a starter last season but was limited by a shoulder injury sustained in junior college.

Cont'd ...

Nice piece by a writer for the Chatt Times.

Discusses the rise of night games for the SEC and how it will continue to increase with the new SEC/ESPN contract.

Chattanooga Times Free Press | SEC shifts to night games
This is one thing the SEC is doing right. I really get peeved hearing people complain about the scheduling, holding on to these draconian ideals that college football is supposed to be played at noon or 3:30 on a Saturday.

Heh - I used to celebrate night games if only for the chance to drink more throughout the day. Now I realize how being one of the only games on TV and being under the lights really drives good recruiting.

Exactly. That's manufacturing depth across the entire league. Even the bottom-feeders like Vanderbilt and Kentucky are on TV in prime time two or three times a year. Some of the most memorable CFB games I've watched over the last ten years were Mississippi St games.

The Big Ten, on the other hand, really only has three programs that I see actively trying to put more night games on the schedule: Ohio State, Illinois, and Penn State. Three of the past four OSU/PSU games have been played at night ('05, '07, '08), as have OSU's last two trips to Madison WI ('03, '08).

Happy they we're able to make the decision relatively early. Todd should be a lot better this year now that his shoulder healed up. Glad to see that Burns will get plenty of play time as a WR and a Wildcat style QB. As long as we'll be taking advantage of his athleticism I'm happy. From what I heard from the practices this was definetley the best decision.

SEC Bans Twitter and Facebook at Games

Fans are now competitors

By STEVE BRYANT

Tweet from the stands, get kicked out. Or worse.

That's basically the crazy strict media policy in effect at several of the southeast's biggest schools, says the St. Petersburg Times. According to the new rules in effect by the SEC, you can't update Twitter, post photos on sites like Facebook or Flickr, or take videos and place them on YouTube while attending a live game.

The policy's meant to keep eyeballs on the TV networks, says a conference spokesman. ESPN and CBS are paying the SEC $3 billion for the broadcast rights to the conference's games over the next 15 year.

But as the Times' Michael Kruse notes, the policy puts the SEC in an untenable position. By forbidding social media at games, they're basically acknowledging that the source of their income -- their fans -- also represent a source of competition. Ruh-roh Shaggy.

Mississippi State!?! UK definitely had a couple of the most memorable-the LSU Hail Mary, and some kind of 6 OT thing w/ Arkansas, I believe.

I'm thinking Jackie Sherrill's MSU team that broke out the old-skool all-whites for the Independance Bowl against A&M. It wound up snowing in Shreveport -- you could barely even see the MSU team.

I was originally thinking MSU for the marathon OT game, but you're right, those were Arkansas/Ole Miss games that went 6 & 7 OTs

Sherrill also achieved notoriety by castrating a bull during a team practice as a motivational technique prior to a game versus Texas. It worked, as unranked Mississippi State beat the #13 ranked Longhorns.[7]
