2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

1) Morgan :slappy: Trent and Marlin Jackson are actually playing good football in the NFL. Read it again and think on that.

2) Looming rookie salary cap.

1 + 2 = Departure if he's got a single brain cell still working.

Marlin Jackson was long gone before Rodriguez was hired. He was an AP/SI/ESPN All-American in college and was a phenomenal player for Michigan, so nice revisionist history there. Marlin started off great in the NFL, but he's not even playing right now and hasn't really played that much the past 2 years really because of injuries.

Morgan Trent turned in his best individual play as a Sr. under Rodriguez and was downright awful before Rodriguez ever showed up, and he most definitely is NOT playing good football in the NFL. The Oakland Raiders. Yes, the OAKLAND RAIDERS sealed the victory against the Bungholes by torching one over ole' Morgan Trent.

Well, that's one source against multiple others...even notoriously sunshine-y beav is low balling this one.

Tom Beaver is worthless. He just plain makes stuff up on a routine basis.

If the guys over at the Michigan Rivals site are saying something, it's generally accurate. They don't jump the gun with things or just plain make stuff up like Beaver/Scout. They are pretty thorough and they do as much fact-checking as possible. They don't really deal in rumor or innuendo.

Sorry I just remember him getting abused by Santonio Holmes. I don't watch much scUM football other than The Game.

I saw both playing well for the Bengals against the defending SB champs 2 weeks ago.

Marlin doesn't play for the Bengals, he plays for the Colts. Well he's on IR this year and missed half of last year with injuries as well, so he doesn't really play that much of anything right now.

I think you are thinking of Leon Hall. Hall was gone before Rodriguez showed up, and he was an AP/SI/ESPN All-American and 1st round draft pick like Marlin as well.

I don't recall Marlin getting abused by Holmes. I do recall him getting beat pretty badly once by Holmes, but I would hardly classify that as abuse.

You are right, I was thinking of Hall.

A glimpse into the "happy world" that is/was Ann Arbor...
*AS THE LOSSES piled up this season, members of Rodriguez's staff reportedly got increasingly abusive with players, repeatedly calling them "losers," among other things. This apparently only served to alienate an increasing number of players
*ACCORDING TO SEVERAL people who said they are familiar with the situation, the question among many a Michigan program-watcher is not whether or not Rodriguez and his staff repeatedly exceeded the four-hour-a-day, 20-hour-a-week limit, but by how much they exceeded it.
Granted, it's from a WVa site, but still.

Some insightful discussions over on stadium & main (I miss the days when these were commonplace)

2nd half of last 5 games

RE: 2nd half of last 5 games

1. Lack of depth was a killer, UM has not able to over come key injuries to players Like Molk and BMinor. Loss of Boo Boo at CB forced Woolflok to CB and UM had no other safety with speed or athletic ability to prevent big plays

2. Size on defense was a killer, offenses were able to wear them down.

3. Defenses figured out that if you kept Forcier in pocket he was far less of a threat.

4. Lack of team speed at safety caused way too many big plays

5. Lack vertical passing allowed opponents to compress field and gang up on running gmae.

6. RR and offensive staffs refusal to slow down the game and keep defense off the field

7. TO ratio!
Of course Peter Klima chimes in with a doozie immediately afterwards.

re: Tate - "Friend" commentary is only worth so much, but it's a potential glimpse behind the scenes
Tate arrived back out in So. Cal for Thanksgiving. Several things of note that he told friends here are

a) he really likes going to school at the University of Michigan and is enjoying tremendously his non-football experience in Ann Arbor;

b) he thinks the QB position will be an open competition next season and that he does not feel like it is his job to lose.

c) He also said that while he played in a spread offense in high school, he does not consider himself a running QB.

Minor will continue to be a big loss next year because they have nobody comparable with his skillset to replace him. Vincent Smith is a shifty little bastard, but far from an eerydown guy. Shart has never really impressed me. Toussaint is a wildcard. Looks like RB by commitee.

2. Size on defense was a killer, offenses were able to wear them down. They aren't doing a lot to improve that this year, particularly at LB.

3. Defenses figured out that if you kept Forcier in pocket he was far less of a threat. This won't change. He has the classic gunslinger mentality. I think you'll always have to take the bad with the good with tater.

4. Lack of team speed at safety caused way too many big plays Could be an upgrade here with Robinson, but word is he may be moved to the hybrid spot. Maybe Turner moves here?

5. Lack vertical passing allowed opponents to compress field and gang up on running gmae. Probably won't change unless they can find a running game to keep defenses honest. The OL needs to get better for that to happen too.

6. RR and offensive staffs refusal to slow down the game and keep defense off the field That may change if tater grows and becomes more comfortable. If he keeps the job.

7. TO ratio! Again, I get the feeling this will always be an issue with tater, and if they go to Gardner...the cycle repeats itself with another frosh.
