2010 tOSU Offense Discussion

Ok, I was with Hartman until the very end when out of the blue he makes the braindead statement that TP is not as good a runner as... Pittman. WTF? He says TP can't make players miss as well as Pittman. I liked Antonio. He was a solid back, but he wasn't known for being the least bit shifty or elusive. Pryor, on the other hand, besides being much bigger makes defensive players look like they're seeing double and going after the wrong image. If we ever saw TP run as much as Pat White or Tebow, he'd be better than them. This guy can have a first down any time he wants. He has been our running game at times.

Anyway, mostly good read on the possible variation we'll be seeing with the offense.

I like how Hartman pointed out in the article, the mismatches that Boren and Stoneburner can create for LBs and Safeties. When I first read that he wanted us to stay in the I at times, it made sense because our 3rd WR is actually our TE, and our FB can be used in the passing game as well. We didn't have that luxury in years past, and that's whats going to make our offense so dangerous. Even if we don't have a proven 3rd WR yet, Stoney can be used in that way even in the I, and Pryors legs are going to allow guys to get open when we're in 3-4 WR sets. It's just as conceivable that Twash can have just as much if not more yards than Carter, even if Carter is the 3rd WR based off of that Pryor will go to the open man, and go through his progressions as opposed to locking in like he did in the past. Can't wait for the season to start, I think the nation will be surprised by this Buckeye team, we have the studs in place to play with any of the SEC teams, and we shouldn't have the complaceny we had a couple of years ago. Let's bring another NC back to cbus, and laugh at all the Big 10 haters!

His comments on points within a window of time during a game that they actually matter, as opposed to over the entire course of a game, were well taken. I'm guilty of yelling at the tv in frustration when it has seemed that JT's shut the offense down too early, but overall it's the right strategy. My hope is that the offensive line will be dominant this year so that we can get some points on the board and then drive teams into dust the rest of the way. As much as I like our stable of backs, none of them is the savior RB that can do it on his own. We need the bog, nasty OL that our guys have the potential to be.

Rivals.com College Football - These triplets are a nightmare for defenses
7. OHIO STATE
The triplets
: QB Terrelle Pryor, RB Dan Herron, WR DeVier Posey
The buzz: After two mostly up-and-down seasons, Pryor showed why he was the No. 1 recruit in the country in 2008 with his performance against Oregon in the Rose Bowl; he threw for 266 yards and ran for 72 more. If he continues at that level, Pryor will be a Heisman candidate. Posey became Pryor's top target as the season went on and finished with eight touchdown catches. He has big-time speed and is a top-flight deep threat. Herron missed three games with an injury and split carries with Brandon Saine, but Herron did finish with 600 yards and seven touchdowns. A healthy season could mean 1,000 yards.

Young Guns: Five Young Offensive Buckeyes Ready to Break Out in 2010

Young Guns: Five Young Offensive Buckeyes Ready to Break Out in 2010 | Bleacher Report

Ohio State football in 2010 with an experienced Terrelle Pryor under center could mean a more explosive offense than in years past.
While the ability for the offense to be explosive is there, obviously the question will be whether or not Jim Tressel will let the dogs loose. And the dogs that Ohio State has, whether experienced or not, can be very explosive.

We all know about DeVier Posey, Brandon Saine, and Dane Sanzenbacher among others, but what about the guys we don't know? The guys that haven't seen time yet. The roster is full of players ready to break out and make an impact on the future?and maybe even the current season.

I'm new around here so what do the rest of you think about these five?

I'm most excited to see Berry and Chris Fields. Berry just to see if the hype is for real and Fields because we really need a 3rd receiver to step up.

Louis, Hyde, Brown, Fields, and Berry are good "breakout" candidates. If one of those 3 WRs does well, and Stoneburner is used effectively at TE, the offense should be in fine shape. There's plenty of depth at RB to get the job done.

I'm interested to see if OSU uses Hyde in short yardage situations this year. Put him in the I form behind Boren. The defense has to defense the iso play and Dave. OSU should be able to gain yardage even against a stacked line. Play action off that can be effective. With Boren's proven ability to the ball and TP's ability to bootleg, that could be a very effective formation.

Berry's time will depend on the health of Boom and Zoom.

The position with the biggest opportunity to earn playing time is at receiver. There should be lots of spirited competition at that position. In the end I think Washington will step up to have a strong senior season. The guys in the article will see the field but probably not have a featured role.

Random - but with Pryor becoming a bit more effecient in the short passing game I would really like to see a certain few play calls come up this year.

The first one I can think of off the top of my head would be this.

Starting @ 1:17 - the fake quick out and the handoff to Pittman. I'd love to see Berry or Hall in the backfield for this.
