2016-2017 B1G Basketball (Official Thread)

TSUN beat Indiana twice, both by double digits. Somehow, the Hoosiers have wins over Kansas and North Carolina.
and ttun did it rather easily. I think if Ohio State would take care of Sparty Tuesday and beat Indiana the last game of the season they might make it into the tournament which would be almost laughable. ttun certainly does not belong there.

Indiana is dealing with a number of injuries aren't they? Plus it just seems like a super mediocre year of basketball once again.
The player that they lost for the season was their best big man but they still have quite a bit of talent but that coach over there is certainly lacking IMO They run very few set offensive plays. All they do is run up and down the court and shoot willy-nilly.

 Indiana, they really have no excuse for being this [Mark May]ty

They now have the same overall and B1G record as us
They've been hit pretty hard by injuries, but yeah, they shouldn't be THIS bad. If Crean wasn't guilty of a couple of other flop seasons, this could be forgivable, but at this point, his flaws are glaring. Even in his best years there, when IU was supposedly "back", he couldn't get past the sweet 16.

I read an interesting article a few days ago about IU and their struggles. Wish I could remember where (maybe here?). It basically compared IU basketball to Nebraska football and how their supposed "blue blood" status is rooted in a bygone era. It argued that IU will be very hard pressed to ever approach the success of the Bobby Knight-era due to the nature of today's game...the AAU circuits, social-media, ease of travel, et cetera. Plus, Indiana isn't pumping out talent like it once was, and a small-town like Bloomington is a hard sell to kids these days. Basically they would have to land a homerun hire to revitalize a program that hasn't really been nationally relevant for the better part of two decades, and even that will be difficult because today's coaches don't view Indiana as a destination job anymore.

The one player they lost for the year played in 16 games, they were 10-6 in those games (and played 24+ minutes in 5/6 of those losses). Was he really making that much of a difference? That's the question I would pose to people who make the injury excuse for them.

Even pointing out injuries, yea they still really dont have much of a legit excuse for not making the tourney, hell they are not even close to being in consideration to make it at this point, in a year where the bubble is as weak as its ever been.

The comparison to Nebraska football seems pretty spot on.

The mildcats losing to Tommy's boys brought back terrible memories of the Ohio State loss to Nebraska. Mildcats up by 5 with about 25 seconds to go and lose by 1 when one of Tommy's boys gets fouled when making a basket. Not to mention that Northwestern's best player missed one of two free throws with about 25 seconds to go and also missed a floater with about 15 seconds to go. Also, Collins did not do a very good job with his timeouts at the end of the game.
Also, how did those cock suckers from up north ever beat Purdue. Give Matta Purdue's players and he would probably win a NCAA championship.
