2016 Summer Olympics, Rio de Janeiro

Lochte's apology is a farce. When you are in a foreign country representing the USA, there is an obligation to follow the law and show respect. Instead, Lochte lied, perpetuating a stereotype of the host country and of the ugly American abroad.

It doesn't matter if the lie he told conforms to truth for someone else. It is very disappointing and selfish and he has embarrassed the USA around the world.

Lochte was certainly a drunk douche (to absolutely no one's surprise), but it seems to me from what I've read/heard that Brazil tried to turn it around too much to avoid any additional negative news and were caught doing so. If Lochte and co. weren't drunk douche nozzles I suspect Brazil would likely have a harder time getting this to go away with what looks like a "pay us this 'fine' and we'll back off" tactic. Of course that's just my IMO.

No. He went on air to say that a Brazilian policeman flashed his badge, made his friends lie on the ground, and when he heroically said he would not lie down, stuck a gun to his head and cocked it, then stole their wallets and all valuables. The video evidence shows that none of that is true. Then, that mumbling, stumbling, "not really" apology. .

I think it is only fair to point out that Lohte is Floridian American.

There is a big difference.

I will say this much in favor of Lochte's story - if this happened in America the "gunman" would be facing charges. Nowhere in America is it acceptable to draw a gun on a patron and demand money in exchange for damages. Lochte is a lying douche and behaved terribly irresponsible, but there was no need for taken money at gunpoint. lets not act as if Brazilians are living with a high moral code.

I don't really give a fuck what anyone in the world thinks about Americans if they're basing their opinion on Ryan Fucking Lochte. There are too many other American athletes dominating the world with class, sportsmanship, and humility for Lochte to be an example of anything other than a silver caliber douchebag.
Silver?

Wow. What's gold?

Right. But, they weren't in the United States.
