2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Not sure I agree. At that point, I think it's a beauty contest between OSU, Clemson and Georgia.

Pros for us: we're the only conference champ of the three, and we'll have wins over PSU and Wiscy (the latter of which won't look that good if Wiscy f's us this weekend against Michigan), Clemson's loss to Syracuse is dreadful
Cons for us: the Iowa loss is dreadful, the Okla loss wasn't that close, the committee seems to love Clemson and all things SEC

Like I said--I think it'll be a beauty contest, and will depend on things such as how good we look against Michigan and Wiscy, how close Georgia keeps it against Alabama, how close Clemson plays Miami, etc.
Worry about my scenario playing out, nothing else. I won't let you down.

Pretty crazy to be in it, but wow...I'm actually entertaining the idea more than I did a couple days ago.

I somehow think a 31 point drubbing has to be a disqualifier. Can you imagine if we watched another team get the brakes beat off them like that? To Iowa? But hey, I'm here for the chaos so let's do it.

It all goes to absolute shit this weekend if Wisconsin fails to stay undefeated

All of these scenarios we're throwing around make sense but if OSU doesn't have that top 5 team left on it's resume it gets much trickier.

Yeah, I'd be pretty livid under those circumstances. That said, the fans of all other college football teams can eff right off. Except for Wiscy fans, of course, who, for this weekend only, I consider to be brothers of mine.

Sure feels like we could end up being first team on outside of bubble at 5.

Well, they've kinda earned it.

I'm cautiously pessimistic. I think there are scenarios in play where Ohio State can back door their way into this thing. I'm not booking rooms for New Years though, and I won't be crying foul if they're left out. It is what it is. You just can't lay a giant turd at Iowa like that. Woof.

The cool thing about the Playoff is it gives you a mulligan. It shouldn't give you two.

Bonus for us if Miami loses before the ACC title game. Then we don't care who wins that game.
Also bonus if Oklahoma loses to WVU and in the Big 12 title game. Then they have 3 losses and are done.

Those are even more unlikely than my scenario but if they happen, our chances grow significantly.

Eh LSU got 2 mulligans in 2007. Sometimes years are odd. As long as it's not an every year thing it's fine. This team I don't know what to think. When they are on I think they can beat any team out there this year but when they are off ugh it's ugly.

Maybe a somewhat less exuberant look at it:

The CFP committe doesn't seem to respect Wisconsin much, they are only the 3rd highest undefeated team behind two 1 loss teams.

Ditto for OSU as they are only the 3rd highest 2 loss team.

I don't know but it sure would help for a couple of those teams in front of us to pick up another loss or two.

Trees beating up on ND would be a great help. Losing to Navy would be hilarious as well.

Did they though? Their two losses were both 3OT games and they beat like six or seven other ranked teams, including Tennessee and Florida in the East division and an 11 win VT team OOC.

OSU's resume this year isn't comparable. If they were close losses, OK. But they were double digit losses. It's really hard to wipe that slate clean because OSU found their mojo against Sparty.

And I think the jury is still out on whether or not this Sparty team is really any good to begin with.

I disagree... then we will play a 10-13 ranked Michigan and a 10-13 ranked Wisconsin the week after.

Two ranked wins then. Either way imo

They did. Remember this is a 2 loss team in the BCS era when we haven't had a 2 loss team in the CFP yet. No matter how strong their record was and how little their losses was it was mulligans they got away with. Years are different 2015 OSU would probably be in this year. But most years 2 losses are a disqualifier be it by 1 point of 50.
