2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

I disagree... then we will play a 10-13 ranked Michigan and a 10-13 ranked Wisconsin the week after.

Two ranked wins then. Either way imo

I’m thinking about this as well. I don’t think it would hurt Ohio State that badly. In fact, it gives an extra top 25 win.

I can tell you that I won’t be rooting for that sack of garbage up north this weekend, though.

Yep, that's the path.

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Miami
4. Okla
5. Wiscy
6. Auburn
7. Georgia
8. ND
9. OSU

Need Bama, Okla, Miami (and us, obviously) to win out. In that case, Bama, Okla and Miami would all have spots. We'd be above Wiscy, having beaten them, and I think we'd get the nod, as a 2-loss conference champ, over a 2-loss ND. Then it would be up to us getting the nod over:

Auburn, who will have 3 losses (with a loss to Bama) and won't be conference champ
Clemson, who will have 2 losses and won't be conference champ
Georgia, who will have 2 losses and won't be conference champ

I think we'd get the nod over Auburn, but I doubt we'd get the nod over both Clemson and Georgia.
No way if bama, OU, and Miami win out we aren't in.

They will not put a 2nd team from another conference in if they can't help it

Didn't realize they pushed them back to 24th... at any rate both would be ranked when we play them at least

Better for OSU if teams 11-16 do a lot of losing so Sparty can keep moving up.

The committee has a 2 loss tsun team behind six 3 loss teams including Northwestern. They aren't moving up much with a win I don't think, unless they somehow just poleaxe Wisconsin.

tsun is currently 24th

I don't see how they get 10-13 if they beat Wisconsin

OSU is much better off with an undefeated Wisconsin
Agreed. I don't know how much Michigan needs to be played up. This will be a rivalry game on the road. Not just a rivalry game. THE GAME.

I sort of feel the committee understands that element no matter the ranking. Would much rather lead that right into an undefeated top 5 Wisconsin in a CCG.

Me thinks the committee is gonna do everything in their power to keep out a team who lost to Iowa by 31 ... and I have no problem with that. The fun begins when they have no choice but to put the Buckeyes in the final four. Oh the humanity !!!

But, but, but we are a longgg way from that eventuality.

Most of the trap games have been discussed, but don't sleep on Wisky at Minnysooota! And Miami at Pitt. Especially if it's a cold/rainy miserable day for those southern boys.

An 11-2 non-champ Clemson is the wild card here imo. The committee from day one has given them a pass for Syracuse (ignore the fact that they were down and outplayed at half which is when they lost their QB). They are basically treating them like a 10-0 team, which is bullshit. But will they treat an 11-2 non-champ Clemson more as if they are 12-1? Not that i think it will matter since I think Miami will lose to them. Miaimi not dropping a game in the middle of the season when they squeaked by bad team after bad team may cost OSU. I think they finish the season undefeated and lose to Clemson. As long as they don't get blown out I think they're #4.

Clemson has the nations 78th ranked pass offense and a grand total of 9 passing TDs in 10 games.

I'm not dogging the Tigers CFP eligibility. Their defense is legit and I've seen them maul what I believe were really great OSU O lines twice in the last five years to say I'm not eager to see that ever again. But Clemson is not a great offensive football team. Spy Kelly Bryant and make him beat you with his arm. But you also have to score on their defense.

Thing is, that's the matchup problem for Ohio State, and would be doubly so this year due to LB play. Alabama could probably beat them by two TDs if they played tomorrow. Football is funny like that.

Like I said a few pages back, this 4 team playoff thing is great. Double, or even exponentially, increased the number of teams and fanbases believing this time of year. Fun discussion and hope to have.

Plus, most importantly, this should be the thing that focuses the Buckeyes on finishing the season with no more non-sense. Beat Illinois. Beat Michigan. Beat Wisconsin. No overcelebrating until that is done.

If they want it, it may actually be within reach.
