2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

I'm sure as hell not doing it, but I'd be interested to see how many power 5 champions (which I guess wouldn't go that far back since it's from the disbandment of the Big East) wouldn't be in the top 8 of the final CFP/BCS rankings. I'm guessing very few and for every champion just on the cusp of being in there is a team totally undeserving. Maybe I'm wrong though.
You can find that information here for the years 1998 through 2008

I hope we make the playoff, and think we have a shot, but if we don't I will not feel "cheated" in any way. Two losses is pushing it, especially when one of them is by 31 points to fucking Iowa (who just lost 24-15 at home to Purdue). That's inexcusable.

Agree. I don't think we get in no matter what happens. That loss was by far the worst loss of any good team this year. It will be held against us when it comes down to it, fairly.

Not a terrible day for Buckeyes....

The good:

1. Navy kept it close enough with ND for Bucks to jump them in next pole
2. Michigan State won - seems small, especially against Maryland, but that helps SOS and will be a resume builder. We are big MSU fans rest of way out
3. PSU beat Nebraska...see above. We need the resume builders.
4. PSU plays Maryland next week and can get back into top 10, MSU plays Rutgers and can get back into top 15......that is big
5. Wisconsin winning was big.....we need undefeated Wisky in Big 10 championship. If we can beat them as a top 4 team it bolsters our resume.
6. UNLV snuck out an improbable win after being down big to New Mexico.....seems trivial right? But UNLV will now likely be bowl eligible. OSU may have a schedule with more bowl eligible teams than any other team they are in consideration with.

The bad:

1. Fuck you Iowa......lost to Purdue. Had Iowa won they'd be top 25 and had helped polish that turd of a loss
2. Miami got lucky as hell. Game shouldn't even have been that close. Virginia gifted so many turnovers and also had multiple pick 6's slip through their fingers. Terrible drops in critical situations too. Virginia actually looked like the better team.....just some terrible miscues. I still think Pitt gives Miami a decent game next Friday.....we'll see
3. Navy had a winnable game against ND....would've been a double positive had they won. Lessened the prestige for Miami of beating ND, and also just destroyed ND's chances (with 3rd loss), although ND really isn't a huge concern anyways
4. Seems trivial.....but Army is 8-2. If they win today they sneak into top 25. They're, as of this writing, down 21-7 to North Texas. An extra top 25 win would be huge. An Army win over Navy next week would be huge!!! We are big fans of Army!!!!

Next week hopes:

1. We obviously need to take care of business in Ann Arbor otherwise everything else is moot
2. Georgia Tech is sneaky competitive....wouldn't be surprised if they keep game close against Georgia. A Tech win would be great
3. Makes me puke, but we want Bama to rock Auburn. Our hopes take massive hit if Georgia wins and plays a two loss Auburn in SEC championship. That guarantees (2) SEC slots in playoff. (Winner of Auburn/UGA and the 1 loss Bama team not in SEC Championship). We are big BAMA fans next weekend.
4. Go Pitt! I don't know why, but I'm getting vision of Shady McCoy ruining WVU's chances at title game and letting OSU slip in to title game. Pitt isn't good but they've been competitive. Hines Field, in late November, against Miami......I don't know. That just has Richt throw-up game written all over it. But the big thing there is, no matter what, should Miami lose to Pitt, OSU will jump whoever loses in ACC Title game. Worst case scenario is an undefeated Miami team loses to a 1 loss Clemson team. It'd be close, but it becomes a tough resume contest against Miami who has 1 loss to our 2 losses. I think we'd still get the nod, but we don't want the stress.
5. Go Army VS Navy
6. Go UNLV vs Utah State

Ohio State: Trophy Season underway, but Buckeyes hunting bigger game

Screen-Shot-2017-11-18-at-9.13.09-PM_xs51d0.png

J.T. Barrett wrapped both arms around the Illibuck, and in the driving rain, the senior quarterback lifted it high above his head in front of Ohio State’s student section.

Welcome to Trophy Season. The Buckeyes have already claimed their first piece of hardware, and they are officially cleared to start hunting bigger game than a wooden turtle.

At some point, there also will be an East Division championship for Ohio State to raise, though it wasn’t on the field as part of the sloppy, soaking celebration at the Horseshoe after the title was officially clinched with a 52-14 drubbing of Illinois on Saturday. And between the two, the Buckeyes certainly would have been more inclined to show off that trophy than the Illibuck, no offense to the historical significance of that historical artifact.

“This isn’t our first rodeo. Every year there’s Big Ten championship talk, College Football Playoff, we’re right in the mix of it, so for us it’s kind of easy to focus. We know if we just take care of our job, come out with a win and play Buckeye football, no matter what happens, we’ve put ourselves in a good position.”

That approach had them ready when Trophy Season officially opened for business Saturday.

At the rate they’re going now, it looks like the haul is about to get a whole lot better than just a turtle.

The only teams that matter now are Bama, Clemson,OU, UGA, Miami, Wisky, Auburn, and us.

We have to root for Bama the rest of the way. They aren't going to drop behind us, and if they have 2 losses and so do we, guarantee the playoff committee is putting them in over us.

We want OU to win out for sure, easy one there, builds our SOS and even if they did lose once they would be ahead of us.

Rooting for Miami to beat Clemson, I think we would be in over Clemson with 2 losses and no conference title.

In the end, we deserve to be the first 2loss team to make it, if we don't make it over another 2 loss team I would be very upset unless that other 2 loss team is Auburn winning out. Other than that, we don't deserve to be in compared to any 1 loss team, even a 1 loss team that doesn't win their conference. We lucked out for that last year, we can hardly complain if the tables are turned on us for it. We blew it on our own. I am not getting my hopes up at all for CFP, I just want to see us spank TTUN and Wisky for B10 title, after that whatever happens happens
