2018 Week 7 CFB Open Thread

So let me get this straight... Texas Tech and Texas can dominate TCUs offense and yet our defense gets shredded...

Damn, our defense needs to get going.

Bright side is we shredded a very good defense.

Seems like we can never have both sides of the ball be elite at the same time.

Need to schedule a big boy OOC game or nothing. The LSotP do nothing for our schedule.

I agree generally, but it wasn't a bad idea with how well TCU was playing in the last 4 years, they just got caught in a rebuilding year.

Disappointed that OSU struggled so much in a game vs what will be a 7-6 team. Makes me pause and wonder how much OSU really needs to improve if they want to compete in the playoffs.

Forget the transitive stuff. Each game is different, teams evolve. What TCU does against other teams means little.

The OSU defense could very well make the jump from just good enough to elite in the second half of this season. We already know the offense is elite.

Yeah but the buckeye haters in the national media have already started in on the “That Buckeye win over TCU doesn’t look so good anymore”.
Again we win out and go undefeated we’re in... but no one likes context anymore....even the media seems to be allergic to it.

This is very true and one of the many reasons I've disconnected from cable and watch games on mute-insert Paul Keels and Jim Lachey play by play.

Yep. Only way to insulate yourself, that I have found, is to set the right expectation.

ESPN drives the national narrative.
ESPN has a financial stake in the SEC.
Therefore ESPN is going to create a narrative that benefits the SEC and diminishes OSU.

It's not so frustrating when you look at it that way (at least to me).

Kind of like I don't get mad at an apple tree for bearing apples.

The other thing to remember is for TCU, that game was their super bowl and a gateway to a potential playoff spot. They failed and it burst their bubble. Their offense hasn't been the same since the 1st half of the OSU game when they were mostly running to a script. OSU adjusted, shut them down and honestly broke their will.

OSU's defense has room for improvement, but unlike Texas Tech, TCU gave Ohio State their very best shot and failed. That matters to 18-22 year olds.

The offense they put out during the first half of OSU hasn't been seen since. They were up tempo and laying it all out on the field. Now with the exception of a couple guys they look disinterested. Patterson even looked disinterested for big chunks of the game. It seems that third quarter was the moment Patterson realized they are who they are are, not nationally relevant. They schemed the game perfectly, had the perfect game plan on offense and defense, and his guys played out of their minds, and they still couldn't pull off the win.

So, I'm thinking and I'm thinking 'til there's nothing I ain't thunk, breathing in the air until at last I stunk, and it occurred to me. Let Texas get into the playoff. Let that dogshit program stumble into the limelight without a unicorn quarterback. Let's meet them in a 2-3 match up, give the snitch a proper plungering, even up the all-time and send that do-nothing program back under a rock for another decade.
