2020 Team Discussion Thread

Not if they lose Hamler and keep the QB they started. They have a hell of a RB stable though.

Exactly.

Like Jax pointed out with PED but do we really think their QB is going to make the plays to beat us? No way.

Hamler is the main threat but they have athletes at the skill spots including QB1 and QB2. I think a little less domination by the OSU DL will make their QBs look much better.

Their RB stable is legit.

On paper right now, they are the best regular season offense the rebuilt OSU defense will face.

I don't think returning the LB corp sans Malik Harrison is a strength

I second the notion that the secondary flat out scares the hell out of me.

DL will be very good still but you don't lose the 3 5th year SR's up the middle with Chase Young and get better.

Defense as a whole will be talented, inexperienced and a bit thin in the secondary. Hopefully the schedule allows time for them to gel because they'll need it.
LSU redux would be fine with me.

they got roasted for the Texas game, but that offense- vet QB, great WRs, good RB- can win games. Now they are gelling a little. At least enough to let the offense get distance.

It’s 2019. You can give up 30 and win. Just hope the defense is at that level.

Toughest challenge besides defense is Day getting the kids locked in for 13-14 games. That was most impressive. Day seems like a guy with a chip on his shoulder though.

At least they get 6 games and a BYE leading up to Ped State to figure things out

Oregon is on the road, but them breaking in a new QB in his 2nd game as a starter takes a load off in that one. (also appears Oregon will lose 4 starters on the Oline)

Iowa at home is always much easier than Iowa @ Iowa, they will also have a new QB in 2020

Sparty may be a bit of a wildcard being a road game heading into the BYE week, until they can prove to be greatly improved next season not really worried about that game though.

Ped State will also be rebuilding their defense though

Both starting DTs gone

2 starting LBers

2 starters in the secondary.

Gross-Matos declared, Shaka Toney could follow, which would completely decimate their Dline

Exactly. Great offense and just-good-enough-defense is a legit recipe for success in modern CFB.

The one giant * I'll put out there for the offense being great is, still, depth at QB. Fields goes down next year and it's either Hoak or a true freshman. The good part there is unlike last year, the two freshmen are legit OSU caliber players.

Also somewhat concerned about RB. It did not look good at all in the Fiesta with JK out.

They have a stud at each level of the defense to rebuild around though if Toney stays. OSU will likely have the better DL. PSU the better LB corp. Secondary will be a toss up.

They kept running Teague into the pile, and the few times he tried to bounce outside Clemson was crowding the line. Teague's not going to be another Dobbins, but I think a little running back by committee might be just fine between Teague, Crowley, and Steele.

We don't return everyone at LB, we lose Malik who was our best player there. We have players at DL but they aren't as good as Young and Hamilton who were clearly the two best on that line. And I am deeply concerned about the secondary. Other than a few big hits, Proctor hasn't impressed me much in coverage.

Was Hamilton clearly one of the best two in 2018? Nope. But he stepped up in 2019.

Pick any player at DT, all of them are capable of a similar breakout.

Great defense is our birthright. That will only continue. I trust this coaching staff completely and Day will undoubtedly bring in a coordinator that will find ways to maximize our strengths and minimize our weaknesses.

The offense all ready has the most important pieces in place.

Oh geez didn't realize they lost so much... if they lose Hamler they lose the ability to back our front 7 off too.

I'm telling you there's no one on our schedule that will challenge our offense and no one has explosive enough of an offense to keep up

We lost Nick and Dremont and got better.

Harrison will start at DE and be a beast....I'd expect 10 sacks from him next year. Tyreke Smith can ball out, let's see what another year does for JJB, Tyler Friday and Cooper will be solid, etc. Our DT's I'm not worried in the least about, lots of dudes deserved to play and couldn't this year due to depth, I'd expect similar to same production out of them.

DB's are the only worry for me, but every single team has worries and usually many. This offense will put up nearly 50 a game. Also if Crowley gets 1200 yards I won't be surprised in the least.

In the 1994 Orange Bowl, #2 Nebraska lost a truly heartbreaking game to #1 Florida State by the score of 18 to 16. With just 21 seconds left in the game, Nebraska gave up the go-ahead FG. After getting the ball back, the Huskers somehow managed to get into field goal range themselves, but their 45-yard game-winning attempt just missed wide left.

After that almost-magical 1993 season, Nebraska could have folded and fallen back to the high-level mediocrity that they'd experienced the previous nine seasons (77-19-1, .799 winning percentage, 2 conference championships, 2 co-championships). Instead, the Huskers used that heartbreaking loss in their near-miss season to propel themselves on one of the greatest runs in the history of college football. Over the next four seasons, Nebraska went 49-2 (.961) with three national championships (1994, 1995, 1997).

I have never been accused of being "scarlet-colored glasses" guy or "glass half-full guy", but I truly believe that Ohio State is going to go on a similar run in the next few years. The talent is there in droves, Ryan Day is a certified coaching genius, and the Big Ten will be ours for the taking. We will be a perennial playoff team, and we will win some.

Ohio State will win the national championship in 2020. Book it.
