tCun President Santa Ono is carrying on a tradition of their University Presidents making questionable decisions regarding the Head Football Coach up there.

I posted this in November, 2009, when lame duck AD Bill Martin (GBYBMYMSOB) and then tCun President Mary Sue Coleman were considering dumping RichRod, but they convinced RichRod to settle his lawsuit with WVU, with tCun paying most of the $4 million settlement.

It only took Mary Sue Coleman and Bill Martin about six months to convince RR to settle this. After embarrassing himself for an extended length of time, I guess the prospect of the University President and/or AD having to testify, and while doing do, likely having to choose from the options of:

1 - pleading ignorance and/or a faulty memory about a discussion involving millions of dollars when RR's contract was discussed in Toledo in December, 2007

2 - perjuring themselves

3 - giving testimony that would contradict RR's testimony

caused them to raise/cough up the money and get RR to give up the foolish lawsuit.

When they met with RichRod to hire him in Dec. 2007, it wasn’t proper for the President and AD to be directly negotiating a contract with RichRod (IIRC, since he was still employed at WVU); so they concocted a story where Coleman and Martin were never in the same room with RichRod at the Toledo area hotel where he went for his ‘interview’. Later, they couldn’t afford to have either of them testify in RichRod’s lawsuit with WVU, so they ponied up most of his buyout to settle the case without testifying.

But yeah, let’s get involved in litigation about this current mess, that would work out fine for them.
