Sign-stealing scandal steals Michigan’s thunder

Big Ten opponents of Michigan are lining up in the lawsuit procession, waiting for their day in court. Meanwhile, Michigan coaches and players are taking a united stand behind their beleaguered coach. They are holding to their current motto: “Michigan vs. Everybody.”

Suppose Michigan goes on to win the College Football National Championship amid all the controversy surrounding the shady behavior of its head coach. In that case, I expect the NCAA may be compelled to “vacate” the title as more information is brought to light on this affair.

Not only has scUM always sucked they have probably always cheated too, their cheating even dates back to 1893.........

Does The Michigan Sign-Stealing Scandal Offer a Lesson?

The NCAA may punish Michigan, or it may not, but the more the Wolverines win the less it is likely to matter to their fans – and even to their detractors. The real business will already have taken place on the field.

Michael Weinreb, a noted sports writer and author of “Season of Saturdays: A History of College Football in 14 Games,” acknowledged in a phone interview this week that bending the rules and outright cheating have been part of the game “from the beginning.”

And that’s true. Big Ten anchor Dave Revsine even recounts in his book “The Opening Kickoff: The Tumultuous Birth of a Football Nation” how seven of the 11 players on the 1893 Wolverines team were not actually enrolled at the University of Michigan.

But to Weinreb, what’s really sad about the modern-day, sign-stealing affair is that it “seems of a piece with where we are as a society – just the rule-breaking and the idea of win at all costs.

“It just seems to be more glorified than ever.”

Which players?
I have a hard time believing Corum and McCarthy knew nothing.
But yea, obviously not the whole locker room.
They probably did. Corum, given his close relationship with Stalions, and Spin Pass being the son Harbaugh always wanted.

BTW, when is Corum's lawsuit against Stalions for putting his name on an LLC without permission coming down?

In fact, my money is on Corum as the one who funded it. A guy making $2M in NIL money is going into the used vacuum cleaner business with some low level analyst that nobody knew? That LLC was the mechanism to do it, and Corum will not file a complaint with the state of Wyoming because he's been told by his lawyers that he would need to sign a sworn complaint against Stalions that would result in a felony investigation being opened up, and if he lies on that complaint, then he's the one who's committed a crime.
