Ohio State football: Former players to line up in support
Thursday, July 28, 2011
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

John Hicks grew weary of talking heads criticizing Ohio State and its football program, so he decided to do something about it. He has mustered former players young and old to show their support for the Buckeyes.

"We're doing the tunnel of pride just like we have for a long time for the Michigan game, except we're doing it for the season opener (Sept.3) against Akron," said Hicks, an All-America lineman at Ohio State in the early 1970s. "We're going to have 1,500 to 2,000 out there. People are up in arms. We've got former basketball players and other sports that want to join us."

HELL, yes!

Thank you, John Hicks, for an outstanding idea.

So I realize with all the games I've driven down to see - I've never actually had to stay at a hotel. Always camped out at a friends about 10 minutes from campus.

That said. Anyone have idea's on good hotels? Obviously the closer to the Shoe' the better. I have a few in mind, but would like other opinions. Quality is what I'm looking for. Perhaps places you've had good experiences at?

Anyone? Greenies for the help btw.

Don't know if they're still advertising here, but I stayed there once and it was very nice. It's not walking distance from the Shoe, but there aren't very many nice places that are.

+ 100

Wife and I stayed here, was fantastic. Great hotel, good sports bar/food options, classy staff. Loved it. Tons of taxi's to the game/plus a free shuttle, depending I when you go.

Damn. Just thinking about going to the Shoe gets me emotional. Enjoy my friend. One of my most treasured memories is visiting that incredible place.

BP should really have a "Tunnel of Pride" thread where we pick former Buckeyes to grace the thread. Maybe jwins or someone skilled at photoshop or the like could make a little number/jersey icon and have their stats and such. Have a community wide vote as to who gets in, and no outsiders allowed to vote. No other posts in that thread besides one post per honoree.

Thank you, John Hicks. That's pretty badass.

How many votes do you get per voter? Are you picking ten guys? twenty? two?

One vote per member per honoree. Start from the beginning. Maybe have some criteria in place, maybe not. Kind of a BP hall of fame, if you will. It would definitley be unique with members such as Bill Martin and Mike Lantry (sp?), the TSUN kicker that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Just a way to honor those WE deem fit.

Have a thread for each possible entrant. Need a nomination, maybe a second and third to bring up a vote. Also a way to honor those who maybe didn't make AA or All B10.

Just an idea.

We have this thread for TSUN honorees.

Super-psyched about the opener. I will 100% be dressed in my OSU grey vest and scarlet tie, adorned with tiny sunglass specs and white spray-painted hair. Only problem is -- I don't have tix.

Oh well, doesn't mean I still can't dress up :tongue2:
