Well, pitchers play defense something Ortiz does not. But you are correct aboutpitchers in the AL hitting which is why AL pitchers should win the Cy Young and not the MVP. I guess I have spent to many hours at the Little League park working on defense with 5-12 year olds to go with a MVP who is a DH.
pitchers play defense once every 4 or 5 games....and what defense do they really play? pitcher defense is called self preservation.

Jax: "Sloop if you want to act like you couln't understand my post then fine. I'll play your game and drop it but it was clear as day."

Jax, I wasn't acting like anything - I really don't get your point of posting League WHIPs and ERAs. What is your point? Tell me and I'll reply with my opinion, yea or nay.

"FOR INSTANCE: You say that the Reds offense is due soley to the fact that GAB is a band box and pop ups fly out as HR's, I show you that Yankee stadium is smaller than GAB and now you want to talk about power alleys."

Dude, Yankee Stadium is NOT smaller than GAB. The RF porch maybe, but its not even close.

The FULL dimensions of Yankee Stadium (from the LF line to the RF line) are: 318-399-408-385-314.

GAB is (from the LF line to the RF line): 328-379-404-370-325.

You can check this against your numbers here: http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/NASA...319&content_id=224563&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp

GAB is 10 feet deeper down the lines, and 20 feet shallower in both alleys than Yankee Stadium.

You're big on stats and "facts" so there you go ..

"You say the NL pitching is so bad as compared to AL pitching that its a joke. I show you league averages to the contrary. You ask me to clarify the fucking stats, like you don't know what ERA, w/9, BB/9 and WHIP are."

Jax, of course the stats for the NL pitchers are going to be better. You said, and I agreed, there's a DH in the AL!! One league's pitchers have to face David Ortiz and Jason Giambi-types 5 times a game, as opposed to pitcher! I mean, come on!

And considering how close those stats you posted are, the AL pitchers are WAY better than the NL! There's a 0.13 difference in total ERA .. the DH is worth more than that alone.

Like always, spin, spin and more spin.

You start out throwing huge blanket statements like GAB is a bandbox, pop ups just fly out and its the sole reason for the Reds offensive success. I show you the dimensions vs Yankee stadium and now you want to say "Ah ha!!" over 15 ft in one alley and 19 in another all the while disregarding the 10 ft down each line.

I think any rational human being could look at those dimensions and see the ballparks are roughly the same size give or take no more than 19 ft at any one point. Somehow in your mind this justifies statements like:

Secondly, have you taken a look at the dimensions of most of the new ballparks in the NL? Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Houston, and Milwaukee are all fly ball band boxes to the 9th degree. Pop-ups go out of those stadiums.

and

The RF porch maybe, but its not even close.

This is my point on laying off the annoying ass hyperbole in its purest essence.

And in case you wanna play the I didn't get it card again, hyperbolic annoying blanket statements are one's like "Fucking Yankee fans think because their team wins a lot they invented the fucking game and the rest of us don't know shit about baseball."

Now JaxBuck you can't forget Sloopy's best point, Cincy is 500ft. higher in elevation than NY leading to more HR's in the NL. :roll1:

BTW, didn't Camden Yards invent the bandbox ball parks?

Jax: "You start out throwing huge blanket statements like GAB is a bandbox"

GAB is a bandbox. Its a fact. Every sportscaster, writer, publication, announcer, and fan knows its true. But, for some reason (maybe because you don't understand the measures of "Feet" and "Inches," only OBP, SLG, and OPS), you wish to deny that.

When your power alleys measure 370 and 379, you are a bandbox.

Have you ever seen what Left Field looks like in Yankee Stadium? Its an oval that goes out, like such:

Yankee_Stadium_2004_Dia.gif

To give you a better perspective of how deceptive that 318 is, here's what the Stadium dimensions were in '77. You can see it more here:

Yankee_Stadium_1977_Dia.gif

The 318 down the line is just the foul pole. The Outfield and power alley in Left as a whole is quite deep. A lot like Fenway Park, but to opposite fields.

"And in case you wanna play the I didn't get it card again, hyperbolic annoying blanket statements are one's like "Fucking Yankee fans think because their team wins a lot they invented the fucking game and the rest of us don't know shit about baseball."

Dude, chill out. I never insulted you or said anything of the sort. If you can't talk baseball without making it a pissing match, or getting insecure, then don't reply to my posts.

Thump: "BTW, didn't Camden Yards invent the bandbox ball parks?"

Here's the breakdown of the 'offensive friendly' parks in the AL vs. NL (in no particular order). And Colorado should count as two:

AL
1. Fenway Park
2. Camden Yards
3. Jacobs Field
4. The Metrodome
5. The Ballpark at Arlington

NL
1. Turner Field
2, Citizens Bank Park (Philly)
3. Minutemaid Field (Houston)
4. Miller Park (Milwaukee)
5. Wrigley Field
6. GAB
7. Coors Field

This is what I have been saying all along. You parrot whatever you hear on Baseball tonight, talk radio or from other Yankee fans and are convinced its the truth because "everyone knows it."

I think I hear Rome calling you back to the jungle...have a take and don't suck.

As much as I hate to say it, I think I'm going to change my take on Ortiz for MVP. A-Rod's regular season numbers are just plain better. I've put an asterisk by each category for whoever has the highest total, and A-Rod's got him beat in Runs, Hits, Homers, TB, SB, OBP, SLG, AVG, & OPS.

A-Rod: R - 124*, H -194*, 2B - 29, HR - 48*, RBI - 130, TB - 369*, BB - 91, SB - 21*, OBP - .421*, SLG - .610*, AVG - .321*, & OPS - 1.031*.

Ortiz: R - 119, H - 180, 2B - 40*, HR - 47, RBI - 148*, TB - 363, BB - 102*, SB - 1, OBP - .397, SLG - .604, AVG - .300, & OPS - 1.001.

Bump for today's announcement.

Here's an article I got off of ESPN Page 2.

The Lead Item
Two Words For You:

MOST VALUABLE.

A-Rod or Big Papi? That's THE question of the day: Which AL MVP contender do you support?

Fans fall on one side or the other; there's no room for soft support in this most contentious of winner-take-all MLB award debates.

A-Rod? Love the numbers.
Ortiz? Love the clutchness.

A-Rod? Hate the prissy mug.
Ortiz? Hate the prissy DH.

We can all agree that A-Rod is as unliked as Papi is popular, but any outcome except A-Rod as MVP would be a farce.

Compare the stats: A-Rod was 1st in the AL in four key categories (OPS, SLG, HR, R), 2nd in BA and OBP, 3rd in BB, 4th in RBI and even added 21 SB.

Ortiz is behind A-Rod in every other significant category except RBI and walks. Please stop whining about Papi's late-inning heroics.

And that doesn't even factor in defense, which is overrated as a point of argument (but not so overrated that it should be ignored entirely).

Ortiz is a fabulous choice . . .
as a runner-up for AL MVP.

Bottom of the 9th, two outs, runner on first, down 1 run?

Sure, I'll take Big Papi.

But for an entire season?

It's not even close: A-Rod.
