Amaechi - Hardaway (Merged)

No shit, that is why it worse.
No, the other way around. It was ballsy because it was worse. It wasn't worse because it was ballsy.

Hardaway at least ought to get points for being honest. If Amaechi's earning points with the media for "being true to himself" and all that stuff, Hardaway's at least doing the same thing and not being PC just to hide his homophobia. Responses like, oh, say, Shavlik Randolph's, are the ones that ought to raise the most eyebrows. I'm not gay, and I'm not black, and I'm not part of any recognized minority of any kind (other than "Michigan fan on a Buckeye website" :tongue2: but they don't ask you that on the census) so I can't say this out of experience, but I bet a gay dude in a locker room would at least prefer to know exactly where his teammates stand instead of some contrived PC answer designed to keep his job.

I call horse-shit on that one big ball. Hardaway's comments aren't worse, but they are ballsier. To take a stand like that takes guts (or stupidity) but I think Hardaway is a decently well-thought guy.

HailtoMichigan, I think you are right on with your comments. Screw Amachai because as noted, it doesn't take that much to come out now. However, Hardaway's comments are full of brass. Props to him even if I don't agree. We often see high-profile folks be too PC (JT included), I was impressed by his candor.

Hardaway is a jackass plain and simple. I guarantee there are more than a few gay atheletes in many sports. Comments from people like Hardaway are the reason why gay people don't feel comfortable being themselves in the sports world. Its great that both of these guys were honest on how they feel but there is a big difference. Amaechi's comments don't hurt anyone and Hardaway's comments are filled with bigotry and homophobia. It's amazing hearing his comments you would think that we were living in the 1940's. When are people going to learn that it doesn't matter what your sexual oreintation is, your race, or your religious beliefs. The world is screwed up enough as it is without all those petty differences standing in the way. Hardaway deserves the flack he is getting. I am willing to bet one of these days his children are going to look back and hear his comments and will be ashamed of their father. I hope he learns a lesson so that all of the heat he will have taken will not have happened in vein.

To call Hardaway anything but bigot for what he said shows a complete lack of intelligence. What do you think his reaction would be if a white guy said the same thing exchanging the word gay for black?

Ex-NBA star Tim Hardaway says 'I hate gay people'

By the Associated Press

Thursday, February 15, 2007

MIAMI ? Retired Miami Heat guard Tim Hardaway said Wednesday that he hates gay people. He later said he regretted making the remarks.
"You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people," he said while a guest on the Sports Talk 790 radio station. "I'm homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

Cont'd...

No longer "ballsy:"

He later apologized for the remarks during a telephone interview with Fox affiliate WSVN in Miami.
"Yes, I regret it. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said I hate gay people or anything like that," he said. "That was my mistake."

Tim Hardaway's comments on gays

Way to look like an ass Timmy...

Former Miami Heat guard Tim Hardaway said on a radio show Wednesday afternoon that he would not want a gay player on his team.

"You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known," Hardaway said. "I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

I don't understand why people will go live on the air and say shit like this. You don't like gays? Okay, whatever; just show some fucking tact. You have to be a complete idiot to not think that will blow up in your face.

Whether you agree with it or not...how old are we Tim? Even my freshmen know better than to make statements this out of line. I don't believe in it, but I'm not campaigning nationally to have them excommunicated either. Take'r easy Timmy boy...
