Allow me to chime in: This is the editorial from today's State News (MSU student paper)

I don't actually agree with this... but I busted out laughing in the middle of a class I was supposed to be teaching.... not good.

Gators: What kind of gameday coach is Meyers? Which coach(s) is/are the strongest and most effective during games. Does Meyers and staff have effective halftime adjustments? Give us a feel for Meyer's capabilities; obviously, with his progression as coach, he is very talented.

We have already heard about Fla's speed from the talking heads, Even Herbie and Corso. I don't think Herbie was saying that Fla was going to win because of their speed but just that he felt the team overall is faster than the Buck's.
This could or could not be a problem. If the front 7 can contain the running game and Smith that could be a problem. If on the other hand we are able to run right at them then that is good. However their defense is good because of the plan they have worked out over the season , and that includes a front 7. Now if we have 5 wide that changes their defensing strategy because one of their front 7 will be missing. That alone chips at the strentgh of their D. We have seen what happens when teams try to cover wr's with a linebacker.
I think we can negate their speed the longer the game goes on. You can get awful tired having a 300 lber laying on you all the time. Not to mention a 230 plus lb. Rb trying to make you an inkblot, also I think we negate their speed with our wr's. I don't think they have enough experienced and fast corner's to cover us. We have at least 3 receiver's with , or close to world class speed.
All I can say is they better not blink

Unless Florida has found a way to negate the laws of physic which pretty much dictate a trade off between speed and power I am not that concerned about any minute difference in speed.

OSU has two clear advantages in this game. A quarterback who can handle pressure and a power running game. I will take Pittman and Wells up the middle against the fastest DL and LBs in the country all day long.

based on what i've seen from the vast majority of Gator posters, you'll need some luck getting answers to those questions...

does anyone else get the distinct impression that Tressel will make this game a track meet and see if the Gators can keep up?

i've mentioned it before: florida's speed will be diminished because they will be eating lots of cheeseburgers between now and the game.

seriously, though... do the nfl teams simply discount our team's apparent handicap when the they're drafted over and over, largely in the first round? if whatever speed edge florida holds is that great and that impactful, wouldn't they have far more players in the nfl? instead, in the nfl the slow buckeyes outnumber each of the sec teams.

that speed is played. soooooo played.

Tressel wont force anything to work. He will go with speed if he genuinely feels that is our biggest advantage. He chose to throw over Michigan's big DL early and make them respect the pass before making the run work.

If the films say we have the speed edge great. I still think it is between the tackles first, then over the top.

What I expect is summed up in one word.

Asymmetric

Meyer is renowned for making off-beat calls in critical situations. That makes him on the surface unpredictable as a coach, he makes the teams he coaches dangerous because they run offense in a way that some teams are not ready to handle.

Tressel in the meantime has shown himself to be a more than capable hand at dissecting an opponents weaknesses and tendencies, and, when truly least expected pulling big plays out to seal a drive for a big gain or score. He also has a great and abiding faith in the ability of his athletes to do the job - consider the opening drive of the Texas game, or the first scoring drive by Ohio State against Michigan. He simply went against the perceived strength of the opposition defense and made it into a weakness.

In either instance you have teams that at times must play against the grain. Run out of passing situations, pass when the Defense is looking to stop the run. Spreading the field to provide one-on-one matchups favorable to your team. Going for that 4th down in a trick formation, gambling, when no-one expects you to gamble.

This could be a really great battle of wits. Much better in my view than the much ballyhoed "give him six weeks and he can beat anybody" beat down of Weis and Notre Dame last year.

I think there's a good chance he'll try to confuse a speedy defense by throwing a bunch of formations at them like against Texas.

I think Meyer is a very very good coach. Of course, I think Tressel is better.

I think part of Tressel's evolution at OSU has been having such a great staff, such great assistants, he has learned how to delegate better. Always tough for A-type men to do, but compared to being at YSU, he has the best facilities, the best alums, the best assistants, and has learned to relax and so his play calling has gone from D to C to B in 05 and now an A, maybe A+.

He is a ju jitsu master, he will use the opponents' strengths against them and turn them into weaknesses.

As some have said, I see the passing game starting long and early, and later, the Beanie/Pittman running game (like Branden Joe in the 2004 scUM game) being a factor in the middle two quarters.

Let's not forget about the defense, either. Even though we have the Nagurski winner and many great players, this will be the first bowl game for many of these lads.... If I had to guess which unit might have some jitters, it would be the D.

Of course, if they are true to form, like most of our recent big games, our opponent will march down the field and score, and have all the momentum, and then mercilessly, cruelly we will methodically plug every gap, make every adjustment until Florida, bewildered, starts throwing interceptions.

Let's say two intereceptions?

OSU 34, Florida 17. Nice game.

This 50 day layoff is too long FOR ME!

At first glance, I think the difference will be Fla throwing interceptions. If our offense can force florida's offense to keep up that could end up causing Leak to make some poor decisions. Leak is just too much of a liability when he gets flustered. if that happens, we've got them. I think the second half of this game could be very similar to the Penn st game only with a little more offensive scoring from both teams. It will be close but we'll pull away in the fourth on the heels of two Leak interceptions that Troy will turn into 14 points.

Our defense didn't execute very well against tsun mainly because they were trying to do much, with many seeing their first meaningful action in the 'game'. I forsee a marked improvement in Glendale. I think Pitcock and Paterson will have a big game pressuring up the middle and stuffing the run. Leaving animal and Freeman to roam in the short passing lanes. It will take a lot of tricks to outscore tOSU. Fla better stop Pittman or it will be a long game, cause TS is good for 3 Td Passes.

Especially after being told that USC has the fastest front 7 in the nation for the past 2 weeks... :shake:

Before anyone blasts Herbie for his "SEC speed" remarks, Eddie George already busted his chops about it on Herbie's radio show last night. Eddie told Herbie to stop talking that SEC speed nonsense, because Herbie knew deep down it wasn't true. Herbie responded to Eddie saying, "Edge, don't blow my cover. I have to tow the company line! What else is there to talk about for the next four weeks?"

personally i think percy harvin is the biggest factor of the game for florida and frankly you would think florida would be a dominating team with all the athleticism but personally i think urban meyer is a terrible coach at fla.......yea i said it. they have penalties galore, have a splite qb system, and cannot really utilize any of their talent(besides harvin). oh look tim tebow is coming into the game.......i bet they run with him:roll2: that being said they are still a quality opponent and anything can happen. we are the king of the hill and everybody has been aiming for us and 2 big guns have taken shots at us so id like to avoid a stray bullet and bring home a NC.
