BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

And as far as people who say we are "backing-in" to the National Championship game...it's not like we are playing less games, we just didn't have a bye week.
Besides, wouldn't just about everyone else have similarly "backed into" the title game?

Louisiana State (before last week's loss) was out of the running until a bunch of teams above them lost, due to their earlier loss.

Oklahoma (before last week's loss) was out of the running until a bunch of the teams above them lost, due to their earlier loss.

Missouri was out of the running due to their loss to Oklahoma, until a bunch of the teams above them lost.

West Virginia was out of the running due to their loss to South Florida, until a bunch of the teams above them lost.

The only team not "backing into" New Orleans -- by exactly the same metric used to criticize Ohio State for doing so -- would be Kansas, if they remain undefeated.

Also don't forget, after todays games the pollsters have to start looking at the beauty contest between 3 teams. I still say remember UF last year. When the pollsters have to make a final decision about what NC game they want, they will move people. CFB is a tradition bound sport, I don't think the human elements are ready for a Kansas-WVU game, I just don't.

The thing about a Kansas-WVU matchup is that, as ugly as it would look, Kansas would be set in stone to play that game. Likewise, if Missouri wins the B12, they would be #1 in the nation and they would be set in stone to play in the NC game. So the key here that it's not really a 3 way beauty contest but a 2 way beauty contest between Ohio State and WVU.

You mention UF from last year. Maybe I'm just looking at this from a pessimistic point of view but I don't see that helping us. If anything, another B10 team trying to squeeze into the championship game after what happened to both Michigan and Ohio State last season will hurt Ohio State in the eyes of voters.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that the language that journalists are using in the articles that you read now will reflect how they will vote if it ever does come down to a beauty contest. The language that I'm hearing from all the articles that I'm reading is that the biggest winner is WVU, who controls their destiny (notice how KSU/Missouri isn't being mentioned because the voters have long placed one of these two, should they beat OU, into the NC game). Those articles also mention that Ohio State has an outside chance should someone else slip up. I think that's pretty much going to be the way they vote. Now if WVU plays another sloppy game that's going to be a different story, but if WVU wins soundly, name recognization will not have any impact on who gets to play in the BCS NC game this year.

OK, so what do you really think? I think Oregon loses another game without Dennis Dixon and I don't think there are too many bowls that want them even if they do win out... especially the Rose Bowl. If Oregon does get by Oregon State... it becomes a question of just how much we want to fly to the West Coast to play a gmae we can't win. Beat Oregon and it's well, yeah they lost because they didn't have Dixon. Lose to them and we tumble like a turd in the toilet flush cycle.

I frankly believe it's going to shake out with OSU in the BCS Bowl and the question is against whom, WVA or Kansas.

Frankly, the SEC playoff game is going to have to come under scrutiny. If I'm an SEC coach I sure as hell don't want to take one more chance against a tough opponent. The conference is tough enough.

You know what this season reminds me of? 1998. When we lost to Michigan State we figured it was all over for us. It was the first year for the BCS, and so we didn't quite understand how it worked, but I remember following it closely and knowing that if certain things happened we'd have a good shot. Lots of things did happen that year, and we ended up finishing #3 in the BCS. Still can't believe that Florida State was ranked higher than us in the BCS, although I have heard that if the current format was used, we'd have been #2, but I don't know enough about the specifics of the changes to know if that's true or why.

Actually, tOSU was 4th in the final BCS standings of 1998, behind Tennessee, Florida State, and Kansas State. Using the current model would have likely made tOSU third, ahead of Kansas State, but tOSU would have not have been close to jumping Florida State, who was #2 in both major polls, and significantly ahead of tOSU in most computer rankings.

Not to flame our WVU friends, but at this point- I believe that the match up against WVU in the NC game would be easier than a Rose Bowl match up against USC. Both offenses can be great, but from the games that i've seen, USC has a much stronger defense.

ya think? :wink2:

Yes if given the choice I'll take WVU over USC right now without having to ponder on it real hard.

Thats screwy ass B12 with that overrated Oklahoma scare the shit out of me right now(as far as being our ticket to New Orleans.)

Hey guys, forget it. Even if we go, we don't stand a chance.

If Ohio State fans want to avoid an upset stomach, they might not want to root too hard for Oklahoma to beat No. 2 Kansas or No. 4 Missouri in next week's Big 12 Championship Game in San Antonio. The No. 5 Buckeyes should really save themselves from being embarrassed for the second season in a row.

Ohio State's national title hopes seemed lost when it was beaten by Illinois 28-21 on Nov. 10. Then Oregon, Oklahoma and finally LSU fell while the Buckeyes watched. But Ohio State's chances of winning the BCS title are still fleeting, at best. Even if the Buckeyes use the back door to the Louisiana Superdome by finishing in the top two of final BCS standings, they don't stand a chance against West Virginia.

After Florida ran up and down the field against a better Ohio State team in a 41-14 win in the 2006 BCS championship game, the Mountaineers might actually lap the Buckeyes on the Bayou. The Mountaineers are really that fast.

Think Gators quarterback Tim Tebow can run? White runs better.

Think Florida receiver Percy Harvin is fast? Devine and Slaton are faster. Collectively, no other team in the country has as much speed as the Mountaineers.

Go fuck yourself, Mark.

Did you not think it was coming? Seriously?

We said it in the WVU game thread today, if we make it it will be a month and a half of that exact same garbage.

We couldn't ask for anything more. :wink2:

Aaah well, it's been a good run, according to ESPN we can't win against any opponent, they said USC would roll us by 50, and West Va will destroy us, so give our BCS bid to a worthy opponent like Notre Dame.

It's been fun guys, but we don't have the genius that is Charlie Weis.

IF we get to play them, I fully expect to be able to go on an emailing campaign similar to that in '02.

Just bookmark garbage like that and rest assured our players will read it if it becomes appropriate.

I wish it will be like that. But my feeling is that if Ohio State secures its spot in the NC game, these crowns will change their story and cover their bases.

No changing your story when you type it or say it on the air.

Ask Trev Alberts, Lebetard and a cast of dozens more how Buckeye nation works the email campaign reminding you of insulting shit you said about our team that was 100% wrong.

You know, with how much shit the media hyped up about how we were going to destroy Florida last year - you'd think they would learn their lesson.
Does that fucker realize we didnt even see Tebow last year in the NC? How many plays was he in for? honestly?
