Better Late Than Never (split from C Grant)

There's a reason I said that I think Curtis will still be a Buckeye. I also never said history is a great predictor, I just said we have a sad history.

None of the players you mentioned were elite recruits. Heyward was a 3 star, and Grant was a 4 star on Rivals and worse on other sites. Maybe I should have clarified that. Hicks, Henderson and Davis were considered elite recruits, depending on the service. I see you are an optimist. Although I would love it if Curtis came here, I am prepared if he doesn't.
If you have an offer from The Ohio State University, then, by any reasonable definition of the word, you are an "elite" recruit. Period.

You say that Cameron Heyward wasn't an "elite" recruit? Okay, you are wrong (Heyward was 4* on both Rivals and Scout), but if being a "three star" prospect = "not elite" in your mind, then please take the following into consideration:

Prospect_____________Class___Rivals___Scout___Ohio State________________________________
A.J. Hawk.............2002......3.......3.....2-time All American, Lombardi Award
Santonio Holmes.......2002......3.......4.....#5 career yards and receptions
Rob Sims..............2002......4.......3.....First team All Big Ten
Todd Boeckman.........2003......3.......3.....First team All Big Ten
Kirk Barton...........2003......3.......3.....All American
Ashton Youboty........2003......4.......3.....First team All Big Ten
Vernon Gholston.......2004......4.......3.....All American
Antonio Pittman.......2004......4.......3.....#9 career rushing yards
Brian Robiskie........2005......3.......2.....#8 career receptions, #10 career yards
Donald Washington III.2005......2.......3.....multi-year starter
Anderson Russell......2005......2.......3.....multi-year starter
James Laurinaitis.....2005......3.......3.....3-time All American, Butkus Award, etc. etc.
Malcolm Jenkins.......2005......3.......3.....2-time All American, Thorpe Award
Brian Hartline........2005......3.......4.....#16 career yards, #17 career receptions
Dexter Larimore.......2007......3.......3.....multi-year starter
Chimdi Chekwa.........2007......3.......2.....All American
Bryant Browning.......2007......3.......3.....multi-year starter
Dane Sanzenbacher.....2007......3.......4.....multi-year starter
Zach Boren............2009......3.......3.....two-year starter as true sophomore
John Simon............2009......3.......5.....starter as true sophomore

So, that's twenty 3-star players who have had success at Ohio State over the last decade, with four superstars players (Hawk, Holmes, Laurinaitis, Jenkins), four excellent players (Gholston, Robiskie, Chekwa, Pittman), and the remaining twelve solid to very good players.

Alright, alright, calm down.

Yes, Heyward was rated 4* on scouts and rivals. ESPN had him rated 3* and for some reason their rating was the one I remembered when I was making my list. Look, you're actually SUPPORTING my point. Jim Tressel, being the amazing coach he is, DEVELOPS the players he gets into these phenomenal all Americans. Thats my point. He doesn't get 5 or 6 5* recruits every year like other programs (*cough USC *cough). Instead, he takes 3 star recruits with a lot of potential and helps raise them to much greater heights. Case in point; AJ, Laurinaitis, Heyward, Gholston, Jenkins and Sanzenbacher. You're misunderstanding me, we're arguing the same thing. Unlike say Carroll and Saban, Tressel makes his players who they are more so than any other coach. Any coach can take a player like Jadeveon Clowney or Tim Tebow or Cam Newton and get them drafted or make them All-Americans; its taking the unheralded, lower "ranked" players and making them good that is a true test of one's coaching mettle, and I am proud to say that Tressel is unsurpassed in this regard
