[sarcasm]I can't believe you people. Why knock Boeckman? I heard from my brother's friend's cousin's sister's former-boyfriend's pet dog's owner's ex-wife that Boeckman was blowing away everyone in practice. He should play, he would obviously solve all of our problems.[/sarcasm]
[sarcasm]FKA--I think you've just admitted that your brother's friend's cousin's sister....isn't actually also just your brother's friend's cousin. Are you sure you're not a Mountaineer fan or something?.[/sarcasm] :slappy:

buki partial agreement but if you have to coach a kid up then he probably still behind the kid who came in with better talent because your're coaching him up to. Most of recruiting is projecting a kids ceiling.

hey just went to my user page and seen a red chicklet cool puts me in the mood for christmas. :slappy: :slappy:

tsteele: Yeah, but we haven't had a solid line since Bollman's been here, and the OL has been on a consistent down turn. That points to coaching. I doubt that the OL guys we currently have are lower in talent than John Peterson had at Miami (OH) last year, and his OL flat out kicked ass.

miami (oh) did have great OL's, but it would have been nice to see them play a top notch school to really assess them. they played iowa and got manhandled pretty badly. our OL probably are more talented than what peterson had at miami, but peterson isnt currently coaching OL.

here is a correlation that is worth noting. osu's highest rated offense under tressel was in 2001, when they finished 65th. 2001 was the only year in the bollman tenure, that osu didn't implement his zone blocking technique. it was first began in 2002, with mo c, and the offense finished 70th. the thought was that the ol needed to trim down, so they did, and in '03 without mo, the offense finished 93. 2 of the 3 departing ol start in the nfl and the 3rd is on roster.

osu's ol talent per player is better than some teams, but it is still lacking overall. with a different scheme would we be better, almost certainly, but we would still be far from the dominance we desire with the current unit, which is essentially my point.

While Miami's OL did get handled by Iowa in their season opener last year, they turned it around the next game to ring up 44 on Northwestern, at Evanston...that was the same Northwestern that held us to 20 points on our home turf. They also put up 45 late last season on essentially the same Marshall defense that held us to 3 points and totally shut down our running game in the second half this season. Also, your point about Peterson not currently coaching our OL is exactly my point...had he been coaching the OL from the time he joined the Buckeyes during the last half of spring practice, we'd see a significantly different OL right now. Maybe not a dominating OL, but one that could at least provide better pass protection and open up a few more holes for runners.
