Closer - here is a contemporary article - focused on the Gruden candidacy. In retrospect it seems he used the interest of Geiger to ensure a better deal from crazy man Davis. (Not a bad idea really).

Well what of Gruden's rebuff of Ohio State? It happened on Tuesday January 16th - in the West Coast night.
Where "last night" was Tuesday night -

So in order you have Tressel and/or Belotti possibly tied and in the sweet spot till Belotti opted out, then - in answer to well-heeled booster pressure perhaps - you see Gruden make his appearance.

MrStickball, it was a great story you laid out, a myth even that you wove - but, the available record does not agree with the parallel you draw. Tressel was never the last option of a flailing AD, he may in truth have been the first to catch Geiger's attention.

(Oh, and as for Mason, he wasn't even in the wheelhouse when Tressel was past his 3rd face-to-face with Geiger).

To be fair, I wasn't trying to weave an inaccurate portait. I was merely reciting what Bruce Hooley had said earlier today on 97.1. Remind me to never use him as a source for anything ever again :-p

What makes him Lloyd? Just because he coached under him does not mean he has the same philosophy as far as schemes and or playcalling goes. Putting ceilings on coaches is moronic in my opinion. He could be John L Smith for all we know. You just never know in this profession.

The new Michigan coach, who spent his childhood in the Dayton area, said he respected Woody Hayes as a kid, but he grew up as a Michigan fan because all his friends liked Ohio State.

I know he's 52 years old with a losing record who has never been sought after by a major program. Look up low ceiling and his picture is probably nearby. I think he'll be a decent coach, but looking at his track record tells me he'll top out at 9-10 wins. Like Lloyd.

Given that I'm still riding high from being one of the hundreds around here nailing the fraudriguez debacle, I feel comfortable calling my shot.

I can't stand those kinds of fans. They're usually the ones who piss me off in multiple ways not related to sports too.

Sounds like Al Borges is the OC. Long time football guy, Big 10 experience, more of a traditional pro-set guy (though I did not see San Diego State play this past year).

The key hire will be the DC. Good luck to whoever that is. You've got Mike Martin, who is a good player. And then there's ...... Did you know that Michigan played 20 bazillion freshmen last year, who all gained valuable experience?

Buckeye fans will have to prepare themselves for the 2012 recruiting season. Michigan will go into Ohio and get some solid players. There are just too many good players in that class, the Bucks can't take them all, and UM has so many defensive holes that playing early is a given. Yes, we will have to listen to how Hoke has taken Ohio by storm and their return to greatness is imminent. Funny how the key to their success is always built upon what they can get out of Ohio (that includes coaches).

Lots to watch for over the next months.

Well, he's the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, so that's pretty much a given.

Let me expound on that. He can eat a bag of dicks while standing on his head in a lake of sewage in hell, while suffering from genital sores as a result of illicit sex with Rita Rodriguez.
