Wow. Scary stuff indeed; I can see why Grandma is quaking in her orthopedic shoes.

But, on a more serious note, the development of church based fascism(anti-government and hate) and it's role in politics(because of our divided country) is a concern for all. As would any rise in fascism in this country.
The extremes are just that and against American centrist values. And should not decide elections.

Toas, did you just say "Church based fascism?" and then follow it with "anti-goverment" to describe said "fascism"?

There are a lot of authoritarian philosphies out there Taos... Fascism is one of them... whatever it is that you think the religious right is promoting it's not fascism. Authoritarian Theocracy? Maybe.

My apologies, but, fascism is a particular thing... not something to decribe any movement that uses indoctrination to create allegiance. (Particularly when that allegience isn't to the its own Nationalist movement)

Poli Sci lesson over.

Taos has a history of calling anything he doesn't agree with fascism. This isn't the first hippy-go-round here.

I'm well aware.

But, I tire of the use of "socialist" and "fascist" (Or communist or whatever) as epithets. Fascism is a thing, might not be perfectly defined, but, whatever Taos is descrbing isn't that. I'm pretty sure the right to life movement doesnt' jibe too well with Social Darwinism.

As if your Mr. "Fair and Balanced"?

Let's let the evidence speak(for itself) to middle American values.
Most Americans still believe in the Constitution. We don't need or want a Theocracy(like Iran).

The definition of fascism is;
"a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government" (as opposed to democracy or liberalism)
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...POhL22CA&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title

That sounds like what these radical churches are preaching. A broader definition to be sure, but still under the circumstances, appropriate.

Taos, the word you're looking for is "dominionism"

Not fascism.

The critical component to fascism is the creation of an authoritarian nationalist state (religious zealots love god, not nations)-- as opposed to communism that is an "international movement" or western liberalism/democracy that is well, not authoritarian. There are a lot of other components here, but, I'll go ahead and not bore you with them...

I would suggest you do some reading on the subject.

Chris Hedges on ?American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War On America?

Chris Hedges?s new book examines how Christian dominionists are seeking absolute power and a Christian state. According to Hedges, the movement bears a strong resemblance to the young fascist movements in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and ?30s. Hedges is the former New York Times Middle East bureau chief and author of ?War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning.? [includes rush transcript]

Chris Hedges called ?American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War On America? investigates the highly organized and well-funded ?dominionist movement.? The book investigates their agenda, examines the movement?s origins and motivations and uncovers its ideological underpinnings. ?American Fascists? argues that dominionism seeks absolute power in a Christian state. According to Hedges, the movement bears a strong resemblance to the young fascist movements in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and ?30s.

Yes, Toas-- you're welcome for the google key words.

He uses "fascism" the same way you do, for impact, then correctly uses dominionism as the descriptor for the movement. That the indocrination resembles fascism is one thing. It doesn't make it fascism... as it is not.

I wasn't aware that the American Christian right was responding to the forced reparations, unemployment and hyper inflation following WWI.
