I can't promise that. I can promise all the heroin you'll ever need, but I'm not sure you'll leave enough liquor for us to supply your eternity.

I'm well aware.

But, I tire of the use of "socialist" and "fascist" (Or communist or whatever) as epithets. Fascism is a thing, might not be perfectly defined, but, whatever Taos is descrbing isn't that. I'm pretty sure the right to life movement doesnt' jibe too well with Social Darwinism. :biggrin:

and since a lot of them cling to their guns too ( :lol: ), I'm sure the forced collection of all private weaponry wouldn't fly either.

It's hardly an accident that politicians defend government-run education to the death

Or...oooooor.... could it be that compulsory comprehensive education through a minimum skills level and relative age is good for the nation as a whole?

Nah, that can't be it. It's probably a government brainwashing conspiracy.

By insisting on compulsory comprehensive education I think they are discriminating against Faith Based Air Conditioning and Heating Repair.

The Department of Education was created in 1979 and yet, somehow, we managed to have education long before its existence. In fact, education in this country was BETTER before we had top-down management of it from Washington. Now, it's more expensive and the education is worse, but any attempt to introduce competition into the market is fought by the government.

Why? Because competition would make the education worse? :lol:

They fight it because they want to control it. It's the only logical rationale for defending an increasingly expensive, government-run system that produces piss poor results.

Just to play devil's advocate for a second here. What year were you born in Jake? Wasn't it some time in the 70's? :tongue2: If true that would seem to disqualify you from judging the changes to our education system. Somebody like Cinci(an educator) would have a better handle on the changes and their worth.

And further;

History

The original Department of Education was created in 1867 to collect information on schools and teaching that would help the States establish effective school systems. While the agency's name and location within the Executive Branch have changed over the past 130 years, this early emphasis on getting information on what works in education to teachers and education policymakers continues down to the present day.
The passage of the Second Morrill Act in 1890 gave the then-named Office of Education responsibility for administering support for the original system of land-grant colleges and universities. Vocational education became the next major area of Federal aid to schools, with the 1917 Smith-Hughes Act and the 1946 George-Barden Act focusing on agricultural, industrial, and home economics training for high school students.

So if you weren't born before something happened, you are precluded from commenting on it?

We're trying to apply some logic to the argument that the government screws up everything it touches. It's just not true in all cases. And how could you make a judgement on a system your not a part of? Jake doesn't even have his facts right.
