Buckeye Offensive Coordinator Discussion (merged)

His first sentence admits that it's being talked about...that's the first I've ever seen him say that. When he says "We'll see" at the beginning of the third sentence, to me, that's tantamount to admitting it's a very serious idea. Sure, he might not be "interested" in that idea, but somethings are beyond his control, if you get my drift.

I'm with some other posters on this. I just can't believe it. This is Tressel's decision. It will have to come from him as unlikely as it may be. Who are these people that have enough clout to force him into the discussion mid-season? Maybe I believe some big contributors could influence him in the off season, but 2 days after the PSU game?

Uh, no...if the powers that be want an OC, there will be an OC. And he powers that be are not Gene Smith and Karen Holbrook...

Guess the 1st NC in 34 years only buys about two seasons of comfort....

On the other hand, the alternative is that no one cares, and OSU slips in to complacency.

Honestly, though, I think the lack of offense draws the rope a lot shorter than a lack of defense. In other words, if we ran the score big on some people, but lost a couple of games 38-35, I think there are a lot of "fans" that would prefer that over having a world class defense, beating people 27-6 or 17-13, and losing a couple of games 20-17. Whether those are the people with the money or not, I don't know, but I think a perceived lack of offense is received more negatively than a perceived lack of defense, because many people think it isn't as "exciting".

i would have loved if someone from the press would have fired back at JT when he said it was a matter of execution moreso than playcalling.

I wish the immediate follow up question would have been "If a lack of execution is the issue, then does that essentially mean that you have failed as coaches since 3rd, 4th, and 5th year players cannot consistently execute plays, and have not been able to do so for going on 4 seasons?"

I think you're probably right.... One thing that bugs me about CFB today is you get the lable of "Great Game" when the score is 42 - 38... to me, that's not a "Great Game" but, as I've said before, I'm more in to a crushing D. I think most people, as you indicate, are all about Big Offensive Numbers.

On the other hand, I see no reason why we can't have an awesome D (our current one) and a high powered O too. I'm the kind of fan that would still sit through each minute of a 84 - 0 ass whoppin, and I'd love every minute of it.
