Buckeye Receivers - 2005

We haven't had the personnel to run a lethal passing attack before tho, and in 2002 & 03 Ross had not bulked up too much and was still somewhat effective (plus there was some MoC guy in 02). Krenzel wasn't a great passer, Holmes was still maturing in 03, and Gamble would be #3 or#4 on our current depth chart at WR IMO.

Not sure why we're gonna have to wait until next year for Dukes, I doubt he'll be a force early on, but by midseason I see him making some plays (especially considering the opposition will be much easier during that part of the schedule).

I don't expect us to turn into USC, but I think we will see a passing game emerge. We are going to struggle to run the ball against Texas no matter who our RB is, and with how they struggled in the Rose Bowl it seems clear we should try and beat them through the air.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here... Passing game? Who to watch?

I'm going to say that Sophomore kid Ginn... and San Antonio whatever his name is... and Third... Doctor Gonzo.

Okay, I'm being an ass... but if you ask me who I'd really like to see emerge in the passing game... two guys along with the obvious three I already mentioned? First, Ryan Hamby (or other TE who can also block) and insert the TB name of your choice here_______

You know, Pepper jr seemed to have some pretty nice hands. I wouldn't be surprised to see him a bit more active out of the backfield.

Personally, I'm really excited by this whole recieving crew. I haven't felt this confident about throwing the ball since the Germaine days in the late 90's. Once these kids gets some reps, our entire WR corp is going to be scary good. Holmes, Ginn, Gonzalez, Hall, Lyons, Duke... you don't see depth like that very often at the NCAA level.

probably not in the spirit of the thread but. the guys i would watch in the passing game would be pittman and haw. pittman showed very little ability to pick up blitzes last season. granted he was a tad bit on the young side, but that doesn't change the fact that this will likely be our biggest question mark in the passing game. wr is as good as it has ever been imo, the line seems to be doing ok for the most part, te's seem to be up to the challenge and the qb spot "should" be at least average. but the difference between a 80 yrd td strike and your qb unconscious being carted off for xrays can in many cases be a tb/fb stepping up and eating a lb/cb/saftey who is coming in free. as much as i didn't care for ross, he got it done in that regard. so that would be my biggest question mark in the passing game going into the season.

holmes will be this years star at wr. i think gonzo will no longer go under the radar for d's. he won't be someone d's will fell they can toss a saftey at and call it a day. ginn will clearly get his attention, probably more than he deserves. holmes will eat up a zone d and if you try to play him man without saftey help... might as well just spot us 6 to save yourself the time/frustration. if we have anything resembling a qb this season the guy to watch will be holmes. with all the attention that i "think" d's will give gonzo and ginn, i think holmes will eat d's alive. he's to good to not be considered the #1 threat in the passing game and with ginn on the field i don't think anyone is going to see him as anything more than the #2 guy. if gonzo comes on the way i think he will... the lack of attention given to holmes is going to make for some very big play opportunities for #4.

I am just looking forward to having a running game that will allow our passing game to work. That has been the biggest problem IMO, if we can get some yards on the ground we are golden.

Having said that I am looking forward to seeing TS throw the ball. After seeing the highlights of the Mich game again, I think he could be really good. The pass he threw to Holmes going down the sideline was just perfect.

I am also looking forward to seeing Dukes and Lyons.

I also want to use the TE more than we have, and for Hamby to remember the snap count.

Who to watch? Troy Smith.

I want to see Troy Smith step up and have those play makers torch the opposing D. It will open up the running game making us more balanced.

Will it happen? Yes to a degree. I cant believe every game will be a tsun performance. Yet I believe we will cut down on turnovers which was the main culprit for our losses last season.

So I guess what I'm saying all in all is it doesn't matter who steps up at WR this season, it who gets them the ball.

Holmes & Ginn (Merged all)

Why does Ginn get so much love as a reciever? Teddy Ginn Jr. is an awesome special teams player, but Holmes is far and away the better reciever. Why is Ginn the media darling and Holmes doesn't get near the press? Somebody help me out.

P.S. I wish the Horns had a reciever like Holmes, the dude's a stud.

Everyone here knows Holmes is a better reciever, and Gonzolez (back up flanker) may just be better as well. Ginn gets more love as aplaymaker and since they dont know what to classify him as, they go with "wr". So, when people read the articles, they read about this stud reciever adn get the notion that he is our best reciever. But, Ginn is a great athlete, he just needs to get open a lil more and learn to run routes a lil better. The coaches need to find him and the rest of the recievers a solid, #1 QB to get him the ball.

Holmes is a better reciever. Ginn is a better returner/runner/and hopefully soon, defender. Ginn is also a little more exciting after the catch and younger which adds some excitment.

Holmes is a Stud and i do think he should get some more credit. Ginn on the same offense makes him a better player and vise versa...

I am so going to miss Santonio when he is gone, which will probably be after this season. He is so good, runs such great routes and is just clutch. I also truly enjoy Danielson announcing our games because you can hear the respect a former QB has for a WR of Santonio's talent. That right there shows me what kind of player Mr. Holmes is.

Danielson also thinks JZ is the better QB.

Yeah, Holmes, should have no problem going pro after this year. I dont think he will return for his senior year, which is understandable. He gave up so much just by making us - fans - happy. The guy has two kids and a girlfriend in Florida waiting for his perminant return home, or for news to move to a city where they can have a happy family. He is a true Buckeye.

Seriously, if I could put my finger on one thing that's got me really irked right now, we made absolutely NO progress in solidifying our O. It takes a loss for things to get shaken up and changes made for the better. Like I said before, our team will become orders of magnitude better because of losing to Texas.
