Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Yea, I hear that OH10. If he refuses to sign an extension before the trading deadline of his last year, I'm trading him to the highest bidder, regardless of the teams status at the time.

Is Ferry ignoring his wishes? Fuck no. When you're 25MM over the cap, you can't do shit. He can trade some EC's but not if they pick up high priced non-EC's. With the guys that come off the books after this season, then after next, they'll have plenty to spend at that time.

But, having the money to spend still doesn't mean guys will want to sign, especially when they can get more to re-sign, in years and dollars.

I think, barring a few minor changes, this team is essentially set for 08-09, at least to start. That way, Ferry can start the season with the new guys from last years deadline to see how they play together for the long term rather than just 25 games. If things don't workout, then Ferry can ship the EC's at the deadline.

LeBron aware that Nets, Knicks looking to snag All-Star in future

By Chris Sheridan

NEW YORK -- All that LeBron James-to-the-Knicks speculation might be focused on the right city but the wrong team.
It appears, judging from James' comments Monday, that the Nets might be James' preferred destination if he opts out of his contract in the summer of 2010 and becomes an unrestricted free agent.
James listed New York as his favorite city Monday (his hometown of Akron, Ohio came in fifth behind Washington D.C., Dallas, and Los Angeles) as he took part in a one-day USA Basketball media blitz, and he also gave an answer to a follow-up question that'll make Knicks president Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D'Antoni cringe.
"My favorite borough? Brooklyn," James said, choosing the proposed future home of the New Jersey Nets over the borough of Manhattan, where the Knicks play their home games. "Brooklyn is definitely a great place here in New York City, and some of my best friends are from Brooklyn, so I stick up for them."
James is personal friends with the performer Jay-Z, who owns a small piece of the Nets, but James said that relationship would play no role in whether he decides to leave Cleveland -- either when his contract expires in 2011, or if he exercises his opt-out in 2010. The Nets made a major financial move on draft night to position themselves to make a maximum offer to James in the summer of 2010, shedding Richard Jefferson's contract when they dealt him to Milwaukee for Bobby Simmons and Yi Jianlian. If New Jersey chooses to trade Vince Carter for a player or players whose contracts expire before the summer of 2010, they'll have more than enough room to offer James a maximum salary.

The writing is all over the wall..

Agreed. I'm still torn though. Half of me wants to make the best of the next two years, and maybe, just maybe, we win a title. The other half doesn't want to get sucked into believing in Lebron, knowing that he's going to leave.

I guess I could still have it both ways. Cleveland can just live the next two years like its their last for this team - because it very well may be.

figures.......

Anything they do will have to be by trade rather than FA. They can only spend around 5 mil thanks to being over the cap. That being said I would make a run at Posey. Ohio guy, plays good D and can shoot 3's off the bench. I doubt that Boston lets him go. I would also see what GS wants in a trade for Davis. I have no problem with Ferry not making a deal now. He will be in a much better position to make a move closer to the deadline.

BINGO!

While we all wish we can make a trade this offseason we really don't have to. Just look how the Lakers fleeced Memphis for Gasol. The better trades will be more readily available in January/February.

Yes, Milwaukee might think they have a good team now with Redd and can make the playoffs. But what if they don't gel and are out of the playoff hunt. Then it could be as simple as Wally & Jones for Redd and we keep AV.

Or what if a team that should make the playoffs goes into the tanker due to injuries or just not being as good. Then their star player becomes available. Ferry can make the move then.

Imagine this dream scenario... Phoenix's new coach just sucks and they just fall apart. We all know Phoenix's owner has cut corners in the past to make money. So they decide to rebuild the team and they need an expiring contract. All of the sudden Steve Nash can be had for Wally and AV. How quickly do we jump for that?

Now I know that is a dream and unlikely to happen, but you never know what will happen during the season that can make players available.

Basically you don't want to shoot your wad too early and then realize you could have gotten Player X at the trade deadline if you still had expiring contracts.

We are said to me making Posey an offer as he opted for free agency...

I think a perfect off-season would be to bring in Posey, and re-sign West and Boobie...

That gives us a solid backcourt...

Then at the trade deadline, hopefully Hickson is ready to take Andy's spot as the backup PF and Sasha could be of value with Posey being on the team...Then throw in Eric Snow's contract and Wally's contract and we might have something to work with...

Everyone needs to relax about LeBron... his comments are being way overblown. IMO no way he leaves Cleveland. And the only reason he wont resign until after the '10 season is because there will be a new CBA I believe and that way he can get paid like he deserves (as the best basketball player in the world). For now, enjoy LeBron in a Cavs uniform and enjoy the product he is putting on the court.

Posey certainly maximized his value during the playoffs...whoever signs him will be overpaying.

I just don't see the sense in signing another role player. Yeah, he'll probably add depth to the roster, but it doesn't put us over the top. I'd rather save the money, and make a move at the deadline if need be. I really think Posey's value is incredibly inflated right now....

Posey is vastly underrated, you put him and LBJ side by side and not many teams are going to be able to drive to the hole and get good looks...

They are both good defenders...Then add to the fact that Posey can shoot the three, and he is a great role player...Maybe even a starter for us...

That would allow us solid flexability with Wally, Boobie, West, Posey, Sasha in the backcourt...

Also allow for maybe more rest time for LBJ if Posey comes in for him...

As for LBJ going to Brooklyn, the drumbeats are getting louder IMHO...

I truly hope it doesn't happen, I really like LBJ, but I hate superstars leaving, especially one that could be considered the best in the league...I hated it when Shaq switched teams, twice once from Orlando to LA, and then LA to Miami while he was still in his prime...The move to PHX was not that bad because he is on the way out...But imagine Jordan leaving the Bulls, Bird leaving the Celtics, Magic leaving the Lakers,

He should want to build a franchise around himself and take it to the top...

I've always liked Posey - ever since he was at Xavier. Just don't overpay to get him.

I agree that us fans probably need to calm down on the LeBron-is-gonna-bolt talk. I guess the talk is there because the person that should be worrying the most about it (Ferry) is seemingly not worried about it at all - and it's coming off as nonchalance rather than confidence.

And we shouldn't even bother reading what ESPN has to say about this. They want this almost as much as the Nets, and obviously they are getting a head start on it just like the Nets did with the Jefferson trade.

Cavs fans might not feel so great, but grades good

Wednesday, July 02, 2008
Cavaliers fans weren't overjoyed with the selection of young North Carolina State forward J.J. Hickson with the No. 19 pick in the NBA draft last week, but two of three national writers gave the team high grades after picking up Hickson and then trading for the rights to Kansas forwards Darnell Jackson and Sasha Kaun.
Chad Ford of ESPN.com gave the Cavs an A-minus.
Wrote Ford: "Hickson has been one of my sleepers in the draft. He has an NBA body and great athleticism, and he can play inside and out. His game needs to develop, but the raw tools are impressive. He could be a nice long-term replacement for Joe Smith. At No. 19, he was one of the few players left on the board with a chance of being a great player."

Well Davis is gone...I know some were hoping for him...

Arenas got offered 6 years 125 mill from Washington...Want no part of that...

Also seems that Posey is going to get more money from a team that can offer more...

My only hope right now is that the Warriors fuck up talks with Monta Ellis, and kinda forces the Warriors into a sign and trade...

He would be the player at the top of my wish list, even over Redd, Davis, Arenas...He was probably the warriors best player last year down the stretch...

Probably not going to happen, but you never know...

If that don't happen it looks like we will be pretty quiet in free agency...
