NBA draft: John Hollinger's Draft Rater 2009 - ESPN

based on hollinger's statistical analysis, green was the 8th best player in this draft.

I love Danny Green's game. I really think he was the best overall player on UNC's roster. Might sound ridculous, I don't really care, but the kid could do it all. Great perimeter shot with nice form, solid defender, and decent lift at the hole. I think his game translates perfectly with LeBron b/c he can make the open shot but also slash when need be.

I agree with everybody and really like the Danny Green pick, he's got good size something the Cavs obviously needed. I like getting guys that were four year college players. I'd love to see a Courtney Lee type of rookie season out of him.

Back to the Orlando trade for a minute. I like the Carter deal very much for the Cavs. I'm betting Otis Smith would not have pulled it off if he any hope of resigning Turk.

Hedo was the facilitator on that team last year. The offense basically went through him. Good size. Terrific shot and passing. Great "team" player. Now, they give him up basically for a guy that has never been accused of being a "team" player in Vince Carter.

The bright side for the Magic: VC despised Lebron. Everytime they play, Carter takes it personally and puts up some big numbers. It's probably a jealously thing, kind of like when Paul Pierce and Lebron got into it in the preseason a couple of years back.

Yeah, the draft pissed me off for wasting my time... I'd rather talk the Orlando trade.

I love this trade for the Cavs. There is no way Orlando can sign Turk now cuz their payroll would be up near $100 million (or some insane number)

So now it is VC for Turk, and West would be able to guard VC better than he can guard Turk. So that is a big plus for the Cavs. Plus it leaves open what Orlando will do with their lineup. Does Pietrus start at the SF position to keep Lewis at PF? Or does Lewis start at the SF and they get a more traditional PF? Either way it weakens their bench big time losing Lee & Alston.

To sum up... While Carter is a better individual player, the mismatches that helped Orlando beat Cleveland are now a little less of a mismatch.

I agree Turk>Carter for the Magic. I guess they had no hope of resigning Turk if they were willing to do this deal. There's no way someone could argue they'd rather have Carter than Turk+Lee+Alston. Of course, I've never thought much of Carter so maybe I'm a little bit biased.

Hedo Turkoglu opts out of contract with Orlando Magic - ESPN

it sure sounds like hedo is heading elsewhere.

the magic's payroll is at $75 million right now, counting Hedo's $7.5 million player option. But, Orlando has to resign Gortat, which is probably going to cost them maybe half of Hedo's cap hold. So, essentially, making the trade they did and resigning gortat will keep them close to the same in payroll as they were last year.

For a team that didn't want to pay much in luxury taxes, being $17 million over the cap without resigning one of your stars, who wants $10 million+ isn't an ideal situation.

Not sure why the media has such a hard on for the Nagic after that trade.

Hedo, Lee and Alston getting replaced by VC ? They were better Wed. than they are now, especially with Hedo leaving.

It's all about being ready to pony up the money. They would be a much better team if they made this trade and resigned Turk, but if the luxury tax prevents them from bringing back one of their key players it's the owners fault. If Gilbert was in this situation right now does anyone think he would let one of his top 3 players walk because of money? I bet he would pay Turk 10 mil a year and take the cap hit to get him in Cleveland if he could. Imagine Mo, West, Lebron, Turk, and Shaq.

Cavs take Danny Green... Not bad. Nice stroke... I think Heytvelt's size might have been a better addition...

Green is an excellent defender though, so that's a bonus...

Danny Green should be a good guard coming off the bench. Sounds like what the Cavs needed; big guard that can defend and catch and shoot. Just teach him how to hump legs and shoot from the corner like Pietrus.

True story. I like the pick...

I disagree. VC is a very good jump shooter, and can clearly score in all kinds of ways. IMO this is a wash at worst, but I flatly disagree that Turk is better than Carter.

I didn't say better overall. I said better for the Magic meaning Turk is a better fit for the team.

The last three...yes. The first two...ehh not so much.

After receiving some rep (I don't know how to tell if it was positive or negative) I feel like I should explain myself. I say nay to Delonte and Mo because in proposed lineup including Shaq, LBJ, and Turk because it still does not solve the matchup problems.

Let's say we add Turk. He's an atrocious defender. The only thing worse than a short defender who doesn't matchup well is a 6'10" defender who doesn't care to defend. That is blow-by city (read: foul trouble for Shaq). You want to add another shooter? Fine...only with the addition of a defender. To have Delonte (shooter), Mo (shooter), LBJ (Basketball God), Shaq (half-court immovable object) and Turk (shooter) in the same lineup means that we put Turk at the 4? No.

The NBA is all about fitting pieces together where the pieces maximize the potential from their teamates. We can't ask Delonte to face guard a Turkoglu or a Rashard Lewis type. In this way; I think the Cavs would be a better team with the addition of Pietrus than with Turk. The OP said imagine a lineup with Mo, DWest, LBJ, Turk, and Shaq. My post meant that I will kindly pass on that abomination of a lineup.

Directed to the one who gave me the rep:
Yes they were ballin in the regular season. I'm not hating on their skills. Just take the pressure off of them on the defensive end and I think it will be alot easier for their shots to fall on the other end of the court.

Sorry if this post doesn't make sense. I delusionally think I can make a difference in Bball strategy by my posts.
