CB E.J. Underwood (transfer to Pikeville)

Disclaimer: About this time last year NYB and I were politely explaining to those Bucknut Morons about why you wouldn't see Ginn at WR in '04 and why he wouls end up as the next great corner at tOSU... Well, you can't win them all.

Anyway... the only way Ginn sees significant time on Defense... (By significant, I mean, in the right situation they could use him to man up someone)... is if there are either rampant injuries, or his explosiveness gets replaced on offense. (Fat fucking chance).... Now... I'm talking about this coming year... not '06 or aything else.

As for the Gamble argument... look at his offensive production after he started playing CB full time.... For one he only had 4 receptions his senior year... and in those 31 catches he had as a junior... his low average per game went down to less than two from PSU to the end of the season (last 5 games). That's replaceable offensive production..

Meanwhile.. Ginn was averaging 5 catches a game his last five games... so... so... do you want Ginn to get 9 catches next year ala Gamble... or 50?

Yeah-- well that wasn't me.... much like I'm not saying he'll never play corner... I'm just saying, next year he won't play corner to the detriment of WR. (barring exceptional conditions as mentioned above)

Anyway... back to EJ... and I menat to get this in the last post.... but by all accounts... by which, I mean Tressel... has said the kid has all the tools. Now it appears, obviously, that he has somewhat of a 'focus' issue. I sincerely hope that he's got whatever issues he has reconciled and set aside.. If the talent is really there, it would be too bad for everyone involved, not the least for himself, if he didn't get those things behind him and get after it.

EJ only has one year of eligibility. Either he redshirts and comes back somewhere else for one more, or he goes I-AA. I'm not sure either would be beneficial to him, esecially since he has more corner experience than anyone on the team. Of course, it could be a mutual parting of ways where OSU pretty much told him to look somewhere else. He's had his share of incidents at OSU, most not known publicly.

Where are they now ?

Jim Tressel confirmed that two current players — defensive back E.J. Underwood and defensive tackle Brandon Maupin — are suspended while they take care of personal matters.

Freshman receiver Albert Dukes is not in school this winter and is back home in Belle Glade, Fla. He is preparing for a hearing later this month on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery brought against him by a minor female for an incident that occurred last summer.

He has been told to concentrate on his legal situation. After that, Tressel said, they would talk about his future with the team.

Tressel: 2 Players Suspended From Team
Wide Receiver Dukes Currently Not Enrolled

UPDATED: 9:59 AM EST February 3, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel confirmed Wednesday that defensive tackle Brandon Maupin and defensive back E.J. Underwood are suspended from the team.

Tressel said the two were off the team while they address personal matters, NBC 4 reported.

Another player, freshman wide receiver Albert Dukes, is currently not enrolled at the university. He is back home in Belle Glade, Fla., preparing for a hearing on a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct on an underage girl.

Dukes traveled with the team to San Antonio for December's Alamo Bowl, but the red-shirt freshman did not play so that he would have an additional season of eligibility.

It is rumored that Maupin has $2000 or so worth of unpaid parking tickets, plus he had some other issues that kept him from traveling with the team to the alamo bowl.

I wonder what Csukeeter would have to say about EJ now? I have never seen one single player get hyped up so much as he did EJ, and EJ has done absolutely nothing since he arrived here. Hopefully he can get his act together and finally learn how to close on the ball when its in the air and get some playing time this year.

I remember coming into last season, during summer 7 on 7s, people were talking about how EJ was like glue on all the receivers, including Santonio most of the time.

It's a shame if he's goes down the tubes. Wasting a gift like that is a sin.
