CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

I have heard the staff thinks of Jackson as their top priority WR.

Miramar, FL WR Stedman Bailey is a name to watch here at the position as well. He catches everything, great speed (4.4) and about the same size as Fields, maybe a little shorter in the 5'11" range.

Thanks for the heads up on Bailey. Thread?

Not yet.

He was mentioned by I think Berry when he was talking about his 7-on-7 team and how they spoke about going to school together. QB Eugene Smith, Bailey and Telfort were all mentioned. I don't think we can get Smith, but Bailey and Telfort would be in the mix I'm sure... especially with Telfort holding an offer now. I really like Bailey. He reminds me a lot of Sanzenbacher just from what I have heard about how reliable he is as a receiver, great hands, great routes... but watching his videos you can tell he's a lot faster and more dynamic than Dane is, imho.

I agree, he was mentioned as one of the best WR's at the UA/Scout.com combine in Miami a few weeks ago.

Just curious what made you come to this...First off we aren't the leaders for Shrive, Mewhort is a 4 star lineman, has a better chance to slide outside to play tackle if that is not where he is projected or play G or c...Yeah Shrive might be ranked higher, and might have more offers, but I take the early offers we give out and the kids that just can't wait to be buckeyes...

I'd like to add that Mewhort was offered before Shrive.

Here is my updated list...I had to squeeze some people out (Tank Carradine, James Jackson, Reid Fragel, Carlos Hyde, Corey Brown, etc.) to get the number down to 25:

Bold = Offered
Bold and Red = Verbal

RB - Jamaal Berry
RB - Jordan Hall
FB - Zach Boren
FB - Adam Homan (could play LEO or TE)
WR - Duron Carter
WR - Chris Fields
OL - Jack Mewhort
OL - Marcus Hall
OL - Corey Linsley
OL - Chris Watt
DE - Melvin Fellows
DE - Jonathan Newsome
DT - John Simon
DT - Pat Muldoon
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Dorian Bell
CB - Darrell Givens
CB - Brandon McGee
CB - C.J. Barnett
S - Vlad Emilien
S - Jamie Wood
S - D.J. Hunter
ATH - Victor Marc
ATH - E.J. Banks

I know the odds are against Victor Marc, but I am just going out on a limb and saying he gets an offer and accepts on the spot. Everyone else on the list has been offered. No QB in this class, unless Marc ends up there eventually, and if not I am still okay with not taking a QB this year. No TE is an issue, but there is a chance Homan could end up there...and there are some great options in-state in 2010. Offering Fragel is not out of the question but that means someone else gets bumped. Of those offered, I am most confident about Emilien, McGee, Hall, Newsome, Muldoon and Boren.

If there is a better class than that in the country I would like to see it...

What???? No longer the one saying Fellows sticks with the Illini??:wink2:

Thanks! Looked at Rivals 2 reels. Good stuff. 1st reel all homeruns, 2nd reel very workman-like. First thought...looks(plays) bigger than 5-10 they list. 'Big School' Conf / tough competition(Cypress Bay). I'd compare him higher, too.

Let me say how much I appreciate the notice on him, the breakdown and your personal take on his skill set. Your pointing in the right direction saves someone like me a lot of time! Thanks very much, BGriff!!

At only 25 kids that is... Take 52 like BAsicMAth and they'll end up being ranked higher than us... but in a 1:1 comparison we'll have a heck of a class (again), that's for sure.

I thought that the last class was something else... but this is getting to be just crazy. The staff, if this continues, is getting set up for a very long run. Something that I think we'll all enjoy quite a bit.

As an aside: One of the greatest things about what I'm seeing is not just great athletes coming through... but young men who have great potential to be great men off the field as well. Congrats to all these young men and the staff. May it translate to both on and off the field success.
