Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Am I just cynical or is anyone else not getting this sudden vocal support for Shurmur by fans and talking heads? I don't see Shurmur as the future coach of this team. I do not and have not seen anything to lead me to believe he has the ability to lead this team to the playoffs. He is consistently outcoached and still has no idea how to prepare a team for an NFL game. To me this team is improving in spite of Shurmur, not because of him.

No chance he is back. The team is on the doorstep so they need to find the coaching staff and the few remaining players they need to take them to the next level.

As someone said last week the Browns are at the best time to have a good young team with the Steelers and Ravens on a downward slide and the Bungles not being that good. With the right moves the Browns could be the best team in the AFC North next year.

Sometime after the draft I said that Weeden had a good chance to be the best QB in this years draft based on first year stats. The problem is Weeden has at best 5-7 years left in the tank and Luck has 10-15. Luck also has 3-4 years of improvement before he gets into his prime. Being 29 you expect Weeden to be at his prime right now. He might improve a little next season with experience, but physically he is as good as he will ever be. On the bright side he is the type of QB that can have a long career since he pretty much stands in the pocket and guns the ball around so he only needs to move to avoid the rush like a Brady or Manning.

If the Browns can improve the OL and WR's Weeden will be a good enough QB to take them where they want to go. It's nice to see the mock drafts realize that the Browns aren't going to be in the market for a first round QB this year.

I can only imagine what the defense would look like with Jarvis Jones and another good CB. Give me a run down DL of Winn, Rubin, Taylor, and Sheard with Jones at OLB and then rest Taylor or Rubin on passing down to bump Winn inside with Jones at DE. I want it so bad it means it will never happen.

Will really be interesting to see how the Julio Jones trade is viewed in 2-5 years. To recap, a lot of shit has happened with picks moving around, but the Browns gave up getting Julio Jones for what is now Phil Taylor, Greg Little, Owen Marecic, Brandon Weeden and Travis Benjamin. I don't buy Mary Kay Cabot's bullshit from Sunday that Heckert will end up looking like a genius for that trade, but a lot of the realistic assessment of it will depend on whether Weeden has 3-5 good years, if at least one of the receivers doesn't end up 5 alarm suck, and if Taylor ever gets back to being healthy.

Yes I know...my point was just it's meaningless to compare QBs when one has played one less game.

Yesterday kind of was a bye week for the passing game. I think we need to use Olympic scoring where were throw out the best and worst score. Weeden was so epicly bad in the first game that it would be nice to drop that one from his cumulative stats. Luck only has to worry about weather conditions in half the games so he should have better numbers.

So... he wasn't worthless for a full game? Congrats to him. He's
still been the biggest liability on this offensive line.

i really think the OL has been made to look worse by cleveland's predictability in running plays based on formations, and down and distance. the slapdicks at cbs have been predicting browns plays constantly. if those circus chimps can do it, most nfl DC's can as well. add to that richardson being hurt, and there you go.

I know but look at the rest of OL. We have 2 guys that are All-Pro and Schwartz is holding up pretty good. All I'm trying to say is that if Pinkston comes back next season a offensive lineman is not that high on a position of need. I will admit that they probably are not very good run blockers but at least our immobile QB isn't running for his life.

I can't disagree, but the images of him being consistently
Pushed into Weeden's lap burn in my mind.
