Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

All of this is true, and makes it all the more astounding that the clowns have continually [censored]ed it up. Going on the 14th year of this monkey-[censored], and they still have not drafted a good, consistent WR or RB, or QB for that matter. That's pretty much a statistical impossibility, but they've managed.

IMO Couch was a good QB, but the rest of the team was so shitty that it ruined him. If you could put rookie Tim Couch on the team that the Browns are going to have next year I don't think we would be complaining about QB for a while.

I'd tend to agree, but his development was botched from the start, so that's just another strike against them, IMO. He showed promise early on, but by 2003, he was so shell shocked, he was little more than a mediocre nfl qb.

Just another prime example of why you don't start an expansion team with a 1st round QB. Build the team and then find a QB.

That's not a bad deal at all, $10M guaranteed. Would be nice if our front office would have the balls to take a risk or two. I'm all for building through the draft, for the most part, but to limit your FA activity to two marginal DEs is fucking retarded when this team has so many fucking holes, IMO. I'm convinced now, more than ever, that this franchise is doomed to failure into eternity.

cleveland's doomed to mediocrity because they wouldn't sign a qb that's marginally better than the one they have, but cost 5X as much?

it should be a sign that flynn's former oc wouldn't even sniff him in miami, when their qb situation is a total mess as well.

I'm sure Miami was interested, but were probably wary of giving him a Kevin Kolb-type deal when he's basically unproven. Who knows what the negotiations were.

Eh, you may have a valid point there. I'm just frustrated with 13+ years of ineptitude and a FO that has done essentially nothing to improve this team outside of sloooooooowly building through the draft.

dude signed for 1/3 of kolb's deal with seattle. miami straight passed on him and is pursuing alex smith. this was flynn's previous coach from green bay. that should be a pretty clear warning.

Yeah, but, do you want to sign Scott Mitchell when you don't have Barry Sanders?

I know, I know... thing is, that I think the only thing that made sense with blowing the bank on RGIII is the pursuit of the first real difference maker. I get it, Snyder went batshit on it.... fine... so what. It's over.

Honestly, I'm kind of more hoping for a scenario where we can trade down and still get Richardson.... the more picks you get... the less slooooooowly you build through the draft and then can ID the FA's you need to actually spend $ for. And, for the most part, the guys that this FO has brought in have been productive... honestly I think the Hillis thing (for quinn) might have been detrimental in the short term. Dude is fucking crazy, we can't count on him, so best to move on.

RT - major need...
RG - jury is out, but sure would like a backup
C - stud
LG - maybe they saw enuf potential in Pinkston (plus Hicks) that Steinbach's value wasn't there.. and maybe I'm still in the clouds that Steinbach still has it
LT - duh
WR - major need... I'm not convinced Massaquoi is beyond a backup.. would he start on ANY other team in the NFL.. can't wait till we have a WR that a team worries about..
RB - major need... seems they're in the trainers room more often than the field
FB - major need... maybe I'm delusional but Zach Boren would look great here
QB - we'll never know until all the above is fixed

I guess that's part of my frustration also. I am pretty sure that Lerner has told Holmgren to spend whatever but big Mike lost want to build this team through the draft. Like you said, we have signed 2 mediocre DEs and we are very thin at OL and LB in addition to the other positions that are more commonly mentioned. I guess I just don't understand why they have not spent more money in FA because it is my understanding that next year you have to spend 90% of your salary cap or maybe I am confused about that. I don't know maybe nobody wants to come to Cleveland and play. It certainly can't be because of the fans so players must not be interested in the coach or front office or maybe both.

Regarding the draft I guess I would try and trade down and obtain an additional first-round pick. I guess it really doesn't matter who we select with post picks because we so many needs on both sides of the air guess if we trust Heckert and he takes the BPA for a need position, which are many, I would be happy. I will be extremely disappointed if they cannot get that extra pi and in ck for the 4 pick.
